This was quite a shock for us over the weekend.  My Daughter will return to school (sometime this week) to find that her teacher is gone.  Ms. Jackson was one of the new hires this year at Jenks.  She was very attentive and involved with the parents, sending us regular emails, almost on a daily basis, coving the progress our children were making and the activities performed that day in class. Ava (my daughter) really liked her, so this is going to be sad.  We are struggling to figure out how to frame the conversation with Her.  She needs to hear from us before she does from her classmates.

Tulsa Police say a Tulsa woman leaves her children home alone and is found passed out in a bar bathroom.

Tulsa Police arrested Tori Denise Jackson, 27, on complaints of child neglect after officers found her children, 1-year-old and 2-year-old alone in their apartment Friday afternoon.

Officers said Jackson left her two children alone and went to a bar downtown.

According to arrest reports, Jackson was found passed out in the bathroom early Saturday morning.

Police say Jackson was then taken to a friend's house, where she passed out.

According to the police reports, the children's father arrived home to find that he was locked out of the apartment. When he contacted Jackson, she told him the children were with him.

Jackson then told him that she did not know where the children were.

Jackson was arrested and was transported to David L. Moss. Her bond has been set to $100,000.

The police reports listed Jackson's occupation as a third grade teacher in the Jenks School District.

A pastor once told me, after years of counseling people, that he had never met a stupid alcoholic. I have also found that to be true with other addictions (meth may be an exception). You have to separate their professional or vocational expertise from their substance struggles. Many are able to juggle their work with their abuse for years. Hence, airline pilots that have flown under the influence during long careers or administrators embezzling for gambling money.

Perhaps it was a momentary lapse due to some trauma or tragedy in her life. In my experience, kids love the drama and when it is lacking, make up their own drama, but move on pretty quickly. Adults are merely aliens that they have to tolerate.

I knew a prominent Tulsa Neurosurgeon, brilliant man, that frequently required assistance standing in the OR.  His breath was very sterile.  ;)

I feel really bad for her, for her family, and for her students.  I appreciate her professionalism on the job (at least from our witness of it) but I can't accept this level of irresponsibility.  I hope she gets help, but I don't want her in any direct supervision of my children.

I suspect Jenks public schools will take care of that for you. Hopefully she can recover her sanity and continue her career and life.

So this gets a little more interesting.  Apparently the live-in babydaddy who now has custody of the children was picked up in April in an area known for drug trafficking and prostitution with a bag of coke and a handgun.  He was convicted of a felony in August and sentenced to 7 years suspended.

It took me all of 5 minutes to discover this.
