This is a great video of how the maps have changed over the last 1,100 years. Almost every change was as a result of some war.

It is temporary.  Goes to that whole "knowledge of history" thing....


CF, start with Edward Gibbons best know work....I suspect you have already read it.  Brings you up to the point where that map starts.   Last time I saw it was in high school, so had forgotten most, but downloaded it to a smart phone a couple weeks ago - it's one of those free books available from the time before we walked away from the Constitutional intent on copyright and patents.....
