I can't find any forum related to biking in Tulsa so figured I may post here.

The one time I went on the turnpike trail 2 or 3 weeks ago I went east from riverparks and it was closed with a chainlink fence across it before you get to hunter park.

Is it still like that? I'm thinking of going that way again in the next couple hours.

My wife rode to NSU and back, getting on the trail system at 31st & Riverside on Saturday, so it's open.  She did say there's a good amount of silt under the Sheridan bridge so watch out there.

I believe INCOG and/or Riverparks web sites usually advise of closures.

And here it is:

Have a great ride!

I just went on the hope that it was open, was for me too.  Kinda scary the completely pitch black part that goes under the turnpike right there at hunter.

I rode to nsu from my house in BA yesterday and wanted to go further, I thought the trail went further but I guess that's the end.

I've been looking at incog a lot lately planning my bike route from south BA to work by st. francis and think I've got it all figured out now. I've now rode on all parts of the creek/liberty trail and today after my ride I drove the bike-path/bikeway whatever they call it through neighborhoods from 91st/harvard to 61st/yale.

We need our bike paths to connect up to OKC/Moore/Norman!!  I could ride all over this state, then.....

I think ODOT designated Route 66 as a bike route but didn't provide any funding for it. The Chisholm Trail might be designated too.

Indeed, I would very much like to see our jogging trails expanded, I wish they would run the RiverSide Trail farther south. I'm not a cyclist I'm just a runner. I also wish they would move that trail section that's   in front of the Casino to the back of the Casino it's a hazard running across that driveway, when I'm doing a timed training run I don't like to stop for traffic, so I have been doing most of my running north of the Casino. They are supposed to move that trail section soon. Omaha, NE has a great system of jogging/bike trails with NO street crossings  they talked about having a trail run from Omaha to Lincoln, Nebraska dunno if they ever finished that.  (Click on the link that says "Metro trails")    www.omahatrails.com

IMO you can't beat the trail system they have in Omaha, Nebraska -However, when I'm in Omaha with all the miles of trails they have I still end up running on the same old trail the Wehrspann Lake Trail, it's a 6-mile loop that circles Wehrspann lake with a cut off trail for a 4-mile run.  In Omaha they have  mile markers every 10th of a mile on  the  Trail system. The Wehrspann Trail is curvy and is more suited for runners than cycling they have lots of parking and water and it's easy to do a 4 or 6 mile timed run there. The area is full of wildlife from deer to wild turkey there are some snakes in the late summer that can be seen off the trail along with grasshoppers.. Omaha's main trail the Keystone trail seems to be taken over by cyclists they don't like other people using that trail, it's straight & flat and runs for 23 miles making it perfect for cycling.. Cyclists on the Keystone trail are rude to other trail users many cyclists  don't even yell out "passing on your left" they just fly past you-   http://www.omahatrails.com/index.php/metro-trails/wehrspann-lake

I understand that OKC is building a huge system of jogging trails - they had a big 9-mile loop trail that circled Lake Hefner and the city expanded that to connect to other trails. Fort Worth has the famous Trinity Trail that follows the banks of the Trinity River. Tulsa is slipping behind.

9 miles? You're right, just 72 more miles and they'll pass us right by.

NWA is constructing a trail from Bentonville to Fayetteville.
not sure what, if any, existing trail system they have.

cynical

Fayetteville has an extensive bike trail system. I've rarely seen it used by pedestrians. Some of it uses abandoned rail right of way, some of parallels roads and rail lines. Some is flat, some quite hilly. It appears to end at the Springdale border, like much that is good about NW Arkansas.

For a pdf copy of their trail map, go here: http://www.accessfayetteville.org/government/parks_and_recreation/documents/Fayetteville_Trails_%26_Bikeways_Guide_05-28-141.pdf

You need to go over there and look around at it.  Then if you think their 1 for every 10 of ours is "falling behind", then we'll talk.
