I'm sure by now we have all heard the speculation of trader joes opening a store next to their brookside location to sell wine and Brewer. However I suspect that isn't going to be the case since there hasn't been any publicity for such a spot or work done yet.

Does anyone have any insight into what will be going in to these 3 spots? I assume they will go pretty quick because of their location but I am a bit surprised that nothing has been announced yet.

Trader Joe's has specifically stated that they have nothing to do with the spaces next to them. I can't wait for them to get filled so people will stop talking about it. We aren't getting 2-buck chuck until we get the laws changed.

I'm not expecting anything interesting for these spaces. Maybe if we're lucky one of them will be a boutique or something that actually adds to the district instead of another nail salon or tax place.

Any cell phone stores missing on Brookside?

I think it was Costco that had planned on building an annex to sell alcohol.

those laws may change within the next year, thankfully. I don't know exactly where they would put wine and beer in there current store, maybe the NW corner?

It will be leased to other tenants - no liquor component for Trader Joe's. If the law changes, they will rearrange the current floorplan to allow for alcohol sales. They are waiting to fill the other building for a few months to allow the parking issues to work itself out. If you added new restaurants and retailers at the same time Trader Joe's opened the developer knew it would be one huge cluster f*** and would end up in the other tenants next to TJ's suffering. Look to see those spaces start to fill in this summer most likely, they are being patient and are demanding probably the highest rent for retail space in the State of Oklahoma outside of Woodland or Penn Square.

I sent an email this week to that Trader Joe's chastising them for not putting a door on the sidewalk and encouraging them to fix that. I'm sure it's way too late. But I'm that guy now.

The idea that Trader Joe's can't sell alcohol because of the laws is a complete fallacy. There are plenty of examples of Trader Joe's in other states with separate buildings or entrances for beer, wine, and spirit sales.

Don't get me wrong, though! I'd love to for the laws in OK to change. It's just a bad argument for why TJ's won't open a liquor store, because they've done it in other states.

Liquor store owners in Oklahoma have to have been residents for 10 years of the state and cannot own more than one store. No chains, no out of state ownership.

They can't own more than 1 store, or more than 1 liquor store?

Can't own more than one liquor store.

For example, Parkhills has "two" locations, each location owned separately by one spouse.

That's what I thought... I wonder how Costco is getting around the laws then. Aren't they opening a Liquor store?

They found a local to "own" the attached liquor store until the laws change.
