The 2019 edition of the Women's College World Series set an all-time record for fan attendance, according to numbers confirmed by the NCAA.

A total of 78,361 fans watched the WCWS in-person at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, with an average of more than 8,700 fans in attendance per game. Hall of Fame Stadium's official sell-out figure is 8,400.

WCWS by the numbers:  115,514 - 78,361 = 37,155

With both state universities in the final eight team tournament; Oklahoma City out-of-state economic impact wasn't as robust as it would have been had this been an all out-of-state elite eight.

Memories 2014 OKC Pride Week

Martha Elaine Wash, former member of the Weather Girls

We are proud to announce that Martha Wash will perform as one of our entertainment headliners for 2014 Pride!

Martha's voice has dominated the airwaves, and her spirit and charisma have reached millions worldwide. She is responsible for some of the top-selling, most recognizable pop hits of the 80s and 90s. I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

Oklahoma Sooners at Tulane Green Wave game has been moved to Norman.

August 30, 2021

First and foremost, my thoughts are with those in Southern Louisiana impacted by Hurricane Ida and to all those bravely responding to help.   The health and safety of our citizens and of our first responders will remain our primary focus.

In light of the catastrophic damage sustained by the City of New Orleans and, after consulting with our emergency preparedness and response teams at the institutional, local and state levels, we will relocate our September 4 football game against the University of Oklahoma to Norman, Oklahoma.  While game time will remain 11:00 AM, television information and other game-specific details will be announced by the University of Oklahoma.   We appreciate the understanding, support and communication with the University of Oklahoma, especially Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione.

85,000 seat Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium, Norman.

30,000 seat, Yulman Stadium, New Orleans

We have moved all Tulane athletic department operations to Birmingham, Alabama, including our student-athletes, and we will remain in Birmingham until it is safe to return to New Orleans.  I want to thank UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram, Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne and the City of Birmingham for receiving our student-athletes, coaches, staff and families.

The status of future home competitions in football and volleyball will be determined in the days ahead.

Once again, our thoughts and prayers are with all of those impacted by this devastating storm.

Women's College World Series, Oklahoma City

NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel for the sport announced the approval of instant replay for the upcoming season.

Wednesday, the NCAA's Division I Competition Oversight Committee approved changes to the schedule. Last month, the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel for the sport announced the approval of instant replay for the upcoming season...

The scheduling change will be in place for next year's WCWS in Oklahoma City.

The scheduling change, taking the tournament from a seven-day event to nine days, eliminates the doubleheader for teams that lose on the tournament's opening day, and adds a day of rest between the end of bracket play and the best-of-three championship series.

The additional two days for the WCWS will also increase the economic impact of the event for the Oklahoma City metro area. The seven-day tournament had an estimated $24 million economic impact, according to the Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau. --
Excerpts:  Oklahoman, September 8, 202

This will be a big economic boost for Oklahoma City area hotels and restaurants who host the tournament teams with two days being added to the tournament.  Much will depend on how many teams extend their stay for the completion of the tournament.

The day the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon announced runners would need to be vaccinated or tested for COVID.

As the Memorial Marathon prepares to make its in-person return this weekend, it will look different in many ways. The races will be spread over two days instead of being run on one. The starts will be spaced out as will the runners at the starting line in an effort to allow social distancing.

Runners must wear masks in starting corrals, as well as on shuttle buses, after crossing the finish line and in any of the medical tents. They can remove their masks while running, but wherever people might congregate, masks will be required.--Oklahoman, October 21, 2021--Carlson
