I would prefer for this to be a true piece of public art and not sequestered at Philbrook or the like, but if you reach to much opposition from closed minded individuals - consider the new Botanical Gardens going up.  I'm sure they would be THRILLED to have a centerpiece.

I'll stop with the suggestions now. [8)]

I will probably make a list starting with the best spot at the top then working down to least favorite. Then go from there.

Here is an initial list.

Gusher Park at 6th and Boston
Tulsa Rosegarden
OSU Tulsa campus
Botanical Gardens
Grounds of Philbrook
TU campus
Union Depot, if we can find a suitable spot
A pair of them on either side of a bridge entrance near downtown on the river.

Well, its been a while since I have focused on getting the statue project moving. But sgrizzle is going to add one more page to the website so that people will know where to send any donations. It has been set up so that donations will be keept at an account with the Arts and Humanities Council.

I have also done a new rendering to show how the statue would look in a fountain I have designed and the scale I would like it to be. I would still love for this to go downtown somewhere. There are several places it could work. One being the new park on Boston Ave. There is a large blank space along a wall where the fountain and statue could fit perfectly. The park is supposed to be "oil themed", so something like this would compliment that. Plus I think it would definitely add some drama and beauty which would be stunning there and would help draw people to the area.

Here is the rendering. I envision the deco styled background being made of some sort of golden metal. The fountain part would be a "cascade of water", a larger version of the ones you see on Brookside which are simple to maintain and keep operating.

Soon as the last of the donation info is set on the Website I will then start soliciting donations and perhaps bugging the media to see if they will run a story on it.[:)]

This is one of the projects I would REALLY like to see get off the ground.  Not only is it an amazing statue, but it says a lot ABOUT Tulsa.

I'm not wealthy enough to offer significant amounts of money, but I will be happy to help in any way I can.  Including seeking donations from those I know and I have significant sway over a lifting service that has set several statues in town (Fire Fighter statue outside the new parking garage, new statue out at Gilcrease).

I'd be happy to help where needed.  Setting up a trust account, forming a non-profit, whatever you want I can try to help as best as I can (not really my areas but I can learn).

Wow! That is beautiful!

I would definitely donate to build this. Granted I can't give a lot, but would help any way I can.

we vs us

Wow.  That's one tall nude lady. What's she holding aloft there?  A chalice?  The Oil Grail?

Could I suggest a site? Maybe at the top of Standpipe hill. It would certainly add to the skyline in that locale, and would be in one of the oldest parts of Tulsa.

I think it's a gorgeous statue. You could do a pretty garden area around the base of the statue, with benches and flower beds.

Hope to see this one get off the ground. I was never a big fan of the American. It just seemed to contrived.

Keep us updated when you start the donation phase, Will!

Thanks for all the positive comments. From the sound of the responses I have gotten from the few people that have seen this so far, I think this has a good chance of getting donations and getting done. I will be excited to "go public" with this soon and start seeing the responses I get when I meet with some of the monied people in town. But again, every donation will help. The more we get the better the quality can be and the more we can do to make any fountain or feature around it be something spectacular. From what I am hearing so far I think people would be more likely to support something like this than "The American" statue.

Yes, standpipe hill is on my radar as a possible location to consider. Especially if the statue were able to be of a larger size. Something in the 30'-40' would be needed. Sculpture has a tendancy to visually shrink dramatically when out in an open space.

Here is a slightly tweaked version of the fountain idea.

Just thought I would share that my Grandmother passed away a few weeks ago. They ran a small story today in the TW about the Goddess of Oil statue that she posed for.

We had asked that family and friends, instead of flowers, donate to having the statue built.

I would have wished that I could have gotten the statue built so that she could have seen it, but it was not to be. I still plan on promoting the statue and working towards getting it funded here soon. Work and other volunteer projects have taken up much of my time of late. The website is done, but hand out material (cards, brochures, envelopes, etc) to give to potential donors is something I have yet to do. I will do that this fall and also actively start getting out there doing some promo stuff as well.

Thanks to all of those who have donated and expressed support. Have had people send positive E-mails and comments about the Goddess of Oil from all over the country. We will get it built and add a beautiful piece of artwork to Tulsas landscape. I thought it was very nice that just the other day had someone from Washington send a nice E-mail and several 3-D renderings they had done, and offered to do a rendering in other backgrounds and at different angles to help out.

We must never forget, Tulsa and Oklahoma were founded on oil. Very nice statue. Oklahoma's history in oil goes way back.[:)]

I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother.  Hopefully her likeness will be immortalized in the near future.  As before, I love the statue and please let me know how I can help; as well as keeping us up to date.

Oh, and there is a new ballpark going in that is supposed to anchor a new "old" area.  Could be a good fit.  Or not.
