Community Action Project facilitated a planning process to implement the 21st Century Challenge: Tulsa Mayor's Initiative to Eliminate Substandard Housing by 2025. The 21st Century Challenge is a Habitat for Humanity International program that challenges cities to eliminate substandard housing. The goal is to ensure that all Tulsan's have the opportunity to live in decent home by 2025. Starting in November 2004, a coalition of approximately 100 community and business leaders worked to develop a strategic plan to achieve the goal. Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune accepted the plan, and introduced an ordinance December 15, 2005 to the Tulsa City Council to create a 21st Century Challenge Commission to implement the 21st Century Challenge.

A resolution to endorse the 21st Century Challenge: Tulsa Mayor's Initiative to Eliminate Substandard Housing by 2025 is before the Tulsa City Council.  Please take a few moments to call, email or write your Councilor (visit http://www.tulsacouncil.org/ for your Councilor's contact information) to let them know improving Tulsa's housing so that all Tulsan's have the opportunity to live in decent housing is important.  Encourage your Councilor to endorse the 21st Century Challenge resolution so that the City of Tulsa commits to improving homes and neighborhoods.
