This is the time of year to pick up the litter. Litter happens year-round but the winds of March and the residue of winter just make it worse this time of year.

There is not a single easier act that Tulsans can do to build pride in this community to than to clean it up.

Every year, we struggle to find enough groups to do the job. This year, thanks to a new push by the City of Tulsa Public Works Department, we hope to do more.

Partners include Keep Tulsa Beautiful, The M.e.t., Sustainable Tulsa and the Tulsa Drillers. Statewide sponsors include Keep Oklahoma Beautiful and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

It is easy to do and we will provide whatever you need...trash bags, gloves, safety vests, even pickup the bags afterward if you need it.

Please find a group of friends or family and get involved. A couple of hours is all it takes.

We are looking for church groups, school groups, civic clubs, business and homeowners associations, scouts, soccer teams, local businesses, and just everyday heroes.

We try to start organizing groups the first day of spring and go for about two months.

Everybody who helps gets a free ticket to the May 14th Drillers game (that is Mother's day and we try to help Mother Earth). The Drillers also let us add some recognition to the best of the best.

Please contact Laureen Gilroy, lgilroy@ci.tulsa.ok.us or at 596-2859 so she can capture contact info and where you'd like to clean.

We can't expect out tax dollars to do everything and the simple act of volunteering to pick up the litter at your neighborhood park or along a roadway fenceline will help keep Tulsa beautiful.
Power is nothing till you use it.
