I am absolutely opposed to this. I will be calling my State Senator to urge him to vote against this travesty. I strongly encourage everyone else to consider doing the same.

Streets In Gated Areas Could Be Maintained By Taxpayers
Monday March 27, 2006 10:13am

Oklahoma City (AP) - Streets in some gated communities could soon be maintained by taxpayers instead of the residents of the communities.

A bill pending in the state Senate creates a category of "semipublic" gated communities. The neighborhoods would shut their gates at night but leave them open from 6 a-m until 6 p-m to allow for public access and cities would pay to maintain the streets.

Under current law gated communities are blocked from public use and residents of those communities pay the cost of street repairs.

The bill is offered by Representative Randy Terrill and has passed the House. It is awaiting action in the Senate.
