The election that no one is talking about is the race for City Auditor.

Phil Wood is going for another term and is challenged by Michael Willis.

The following is taken from an e-mail that my wife and I sent out to some friends...

Phil is a long-time friend of ours and a great person, but that's not why we are supporting him. He's got our vote because he's been an outstanding auditor, and we know that he has the experience, intelligence, values and energy to continue serving Tulsa in this important job.

Some of his impressive achievements as auditor:

INNOVATION – Phil started an ethics hotline (1-877-888-0002 or www.tnwinc.com/webreport) permitting Tulsans to anonymously report fraud, waste or abuse in city government. He also created a comprehensive instantly searchable database of official documents (audits, ordinances, audit standards, audit manual, executive orders, personnel policies, budgets, annual reports and more) as a tool for the internal auditors.

INDEPENDENCE – Phil has created a professional organization that has independently and objectively examined the City of Tulsa accounts and controls for 18 years. More than 1,000 recommendations for improvement of controls have been reported to the Mayor and Council.

INTEGRITY – He and his professionals adhere to the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing. He is a Certified Internal Auditor and a Chartered Financial Analyst.

I really like Michael, but I feel Phil is more qualified to be Auditor.

The first time Phil ran, it was against Terry Simonson. I told Simonson the same thing eighteen years ago that I told Willis this year. I would support you and work in your campaign for almost any other office you would seek, but I want an auditor that doesn't see things as political.
Power is nothing till you use it.
