OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Tulsa businessman Bob Sullivan is formally starting his race for the Republican nomination for governor Tuesday.

Sullivan says Oklahoma needs a fresh approach instead of a career politician as governor.

Sullivan faces Congressman Ernest Istook and state Senator James Williamson of Tulsa for the GOP nomination.

Governor Brad Henry has no opposition in the Democratic primary.

Sullivan says he'll cut spending, reduce taxes and improve the state's business climate.

Sullivan has never held elective office but served as energy secretary under former Republican Governor Frank Keating and stayed on for one year after Henry was elected.
