Am I a trashy neighbor?

I am the recent owner of a house that I've started to call a "fixer-upper." It has very mature (by that, I mean old) trees and landscaping that hadn't been kept up with for years. My wife works from home while staying at homes with our young kids and I work 1 full time and 2 part time jobs. Between us, the time we have to spend together at home is a precious commodity. When I have a spare our or so (meaning everyone else is asleep) I go out and try to fix up the area in front of our house I hope to someday call a yard. We have several trees that are sickly or dying. Sometimes I have to cut limbs (or whole trees) down, other times they come down on their own. If it gets too out of hand I have to recruit freidns with chainsaws (a dangerous combination) to help me. We then bundle the limbs up and put them out for the trash. The city trash collection has limits so only so much can go out in a single collection. A good pile of limbs can take 3-4 pickups. Add to this the fact that my trash collectors soemtimes just "don't feel like" picking them up so they sit on the curb until the next pickup day.

Now that I've covered the entire backstory, I'll get to the fun part. On two occasions I had to remove a lot of limbs (once because a huge limb fell in my neighbor's driveway, the second time ebcause that same tree was threatening to drop another limb.) On both occasions, someone complained to the city about the limbs in my yard and I got written up by the city. (with threats to place a lein against my house) My neighbor hasn't mowed in weeks, another house sits vacant, and yet I seem to be the one with someone breathing down my back. I was even turned in for using illegal immigrant labor when sears replaced my air conditioner (although that turned out to be a sears competitor harassing me.) I don't leave anything out any longer than I have to (I'm at the mercy of city refuse service) and in no case has anything been longer than 2 weeks.
