This is sad. Edmondson is all about using eminant domain to steal land for shopping centers. Dunn is a fighter for us little people, not for the big government. Edmondson has been a politician for 26 years ... it is time for him to get the boot.

Even without Bledsoe spinning the issues, this is the same trend we've seen in our state elections for years.

Democrats are considered fairly conservative in Oklahoma, in the poll, just under 22% consider themselves to be either somewhat or very liberal.

It's obvious people approve of Governor Henry, there's very little to dis-like.  I like him more than Uncle Frank.  I think his close ties to the indian tribes is somewhat disturbing and the projections of the huge windfall that gambling was going to bring hasn't panned out, but it has provided additional revenue to state coffers we didn't have before.  I also have yet to see anything out of Istook's camp that would lead me to believe he'd be a better Governor.

Hiett is a weasel, and I'm afraid he'd play obstructionist partisan politics.

As far as the other state posts, they are pretty irrelevant as to whether or not a Democrat or Republican is in office and doesn't have a thing to do with the present national sentiment toward the GOP.

Conan, I think you've made pretty astute observations of those candidates.

There are actually several down-ballot races that are important. While party is somewhat irrelevant, who is elected is not only relevant, but vital in our long-ballot system.

Corporation Commission

As a democrat, I plan on voting to re-elect republican Bob Anthony to the Corporation Commission.  He is a ture independant and a pofile in courage for consumers.  Remember he wore a wire for the FBI to expose fraud and corruption within and without the commission.  If you want higher rates and a complete take over by the good ol' boy system--vote for their man Cody Graves--where the regualted will control the regulators.

Labor Commissioner

This office could do so much good for working people and have a positive impact on illegal immigration.  Unfortunatly, it has been in the hands of wingnut republican Brenda Reneau for the past 8 years.  If she would enforce the requirment for all empoyers to carry workers comp on all their employees, a significant dent could be put into employment of illegals.  Only recently has she been talking about this issue.  Her office ususally only gives a slap on the hand of employers at the expense of legal workers.  This is also ture for wage enforcment where they almost never apply the liquidated damage penalty on employers that the law requires when wages are not paid.

I will vote for democrat Lloyd Fields in the race--he cannot be worse than Reneau.

Attorney General

It is absolutly vital that Drew Edmondson be re-elected.  What he is trying to do with respect to the run-off of chicken waste in the eastern Oklahoma water-shed is vital to our own health and to Tulsa's growth and qulaity of life.  While I have often found him too conservative on many issues, because of his stand against pollution, and because of his stand against big tobacco, he deserves our votes.

Other Offices

If you like Brad Henry and feel he has done a competent job-you should also vote for people he appointed to open jobs--Scot Meacham for State Treasure and Kim Holland (of Tulsa & I think a Tulsa Now member) for Insurance Commissioner.  These jobs should be appointed in the first place.  Meacham has been part of Henry's finance team and it seems to me it is not time for a change.  Holland has done a good job of cleaning up the Insurance Dept. in the wake of the alcohol-challenged political hack, now convicted Carol Fisher.  Holland should be rewared with an election for a job well done in the face of a big mess.

I agree that Kim Holland deserves our vote. She walked into a terrible situation caused by her predecessor and fixed most of the problems quickly and quietly.

I am afraid that her race will be the closest because she does not have the name recognition from having been an elected official before.

Please vote for Kim Holland for Insurance Commissioner. She deserves a full term.

Anybody capable of cleaning up Fisher's skank-pit has got to be worth giving another term.
