Uniquely Tulsa -- An Alternative List

In the original "Uniquely Tulsa" thread, the list seems to be almost entirely made up of things that  relate to white rich and upper middle income people with lots of spare money and time.

Let's not forget the large number of Tulsans who work hard every day for very little money and recognition, and who can't afford to go to many of the places on the other list, or can't even afford the transportation to get there.

I nominate:

1. IMMIGRANTS: The thousands of immigrants who do much of the behind-the-scenes work that is so important to Tulsa. I am talking about people who prepare our food, build our roads, clean our offices, drive cabs, and take care of our senior citizens.

2. MINORITIES: The elderly African Americans who have had to endure a lifetime of racial discrimination, while trying to raise their children. Read John Hope Franklin's book, "Mirror to America," to understand what they have endured.

3. TEACHERS: The public school teachers who do so much for our future, while being under-paid and under-appreciated.

Tulsa IS a great place to live, and we owe much of its greatness to people who don't get their proper recognition.

So, to all of those people: Thanks for all you do!

While I agree I haven't been to many places on that list, there is plenty on there for everyone. Unless you think places like quiktrip are uppercrust and the Months April and October are for white folks.

June is the white month.

No offense, but most of that list consists of items I have seen people of every race and economic stature enjoy.
