I just watched a news story on KOTV news channel 6 about a boy who had lost some family members in a fire and then lost his beagle.  He went around and put up flyers with a pic of his dog asking for people to return the dog if they found it.  His mom later found  the dog on a beagle rescue website, but too late, apparently after a couple of weeks the dog is legally now owned by the rescue foundation and the boy also doesn't meet their criteria for owning this beagle.

It seems as if they are being unreasonable and could at least look at the situation and try to do something to help the boy have his dog back.

You can see the story on E-clips on http://www.kotv.com/

Here is the link to their site. I called and left a message and would appreciate it if anyone else who saw the news piece and felt as I do, that the boy should have his dog back, would call as well.

Wow. I wonder if they're gonna realize how they sound like complete (rear orifices) in this situation.

It sounds like the main thing is the family needs to spay their other dog. I can understand the shelter's concern on that but maybe they or someone else should spay the other dog for free and get this beagle home where he belongs.

i dont like pets, but I tend to like "pet rescuers" less.  i bet if the pets could they would give a**holes like this the middle finger.

i would also like to know who comes up with these stupid ownership laws?  If I find an empty house and live in it for a few weeks do I get to keep it if no one comes home?  what if a heard of cattle wander into my back yard and I feed them for a few weeks? free steaks for life?  would someone please bring the sanity back to the legal system?

[8D]they should just return the dog and have one of their vets fix it but the owner should have to pay a fee since their dog did get out and get lost irresponsible pet owners. I have to go next door all the time and tell the lady that her dog is coming to my yard and using the bathroom. she didnt act concerned so now I get the shovel scoop up the poop and put it on her front steps.

uh, im a pet "rescuer" and why don't you "ask" the dog we just rescued who had acid poured down his back and then was burned whether he minded being rescued.

pets should not be left in the back yard for hours on end unattended.  especially dogs that are known to dig.  be responsible and crate train your dog and keep it where you know it is safe if you are going to be gone.  and for goodness sakes, get your pet neutered.  have you visited the local shelter any time recently?  thousands of dogs are put down daily due to this very reason.
