This may be a stupid question, but who are the members of the actual TulsaNow organization?  How does someone become a member of TulsaNow?

PonderInc

TulsaNow recently changed its membership policy to include all those who wish to participate who have subscribed to our newsletter.  Previously, we required annual dues, but the board decided to forgo dues and accept voluntary donations instead.

If you haven't done so already, take a minute to Subscribe to the TulsaNow e-Newsletter.  It's the best way to stay informed of TulsaNow meetings and events...as well as "random bits of community information" that we think you'll find interesting.

perspicuity85

So does that mean that anyone who subscribes to the e-newsletter can be a member of TulsaNow?

RecycleMichael

You have to go through an initiation ritual.

Memorize the history of Tulsa, bring gifts to the President of TulsaNow and learn how to flash our gang sign (two fingers into a "T" then three fingers into an "N").

Then you are a member of TulsaNow.
Power is nothing till you use it.

sgrizzle

I thought they dropped the part about trying to make 3 fingers into an "N" after what happened to Randy...

perspicuity85

I heard you have to take a shot of crude oil and climb the council oak tree blindfolded.

What the heck... It is getting boring around here so may as well ask a few questions......

1. According to recent information TulsaNow is now a
501 (c) (3).

That being said.. there are certain items that must be in place in order to qualify as a non-profit.

a. Articles of Incorporation

b. Mission Statement

c. Bylaws of the non-profit Corporation.

d. Books (as in.. monetary disclosure statements).

All of the afore mentioned items must be in a location that they can be inspected at any time, by anyone, that has an interest in this information.

(many non-profits choose to display them on a web site.)

If a member, as the definition now applies, chose to obtain a copy of the by-laws of TulsaNow. how would one do so.?

If a member chose to have a list of the current Board Members, Officers, and a brief description of what it is that each does for the Corporation.. how would you obtain such items..?

I would have thought that the By-Laws, Members of the Board, and a list of Officers would have been standard issue.

How exactly are your Elections held?

What cause or causes are monetary or otherwise "donations" to the non-profit going towards.?

Does TulsaNow have a physical address..?

Just a few questions... that is if you don't mind.

Now come on......... Someone in this Organization has to know the answer to this...

After all if someone were to want to donate a large amount of $money$ to TulsaNow they would want to know....

sgrizzle

I'm sure someone does know the answer. However you're assuming one person knows all of them and posts on the forum and happened to read your post.

Bring your questions to the TN meeting tomorrow.

I do know that many members of the Board of Directors of TulsaNow and the newly elected President of TulsaNow are forum people...

My point is this should be info that is out there.. for the whole membership..

Was not trying to talk down to anyone.

This ,"the 501 (c) (3)", has been in the works since Jamie was President..

If the only prerequisite for being a member is to "subscribe to the Newsletter"... Then this info should be available to the membership body as a whole.. Not only the ones that are able to attend the meeting at Harwelden.

PonderInc

OK, all y'all keep your pants on.

TulsaNow currently enjoys non-profit status under the umbrella of the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa.  We will eventually have our very own 501-3c number.  Please stand by.  Operators will be with your shortly.  Our mailing address is at Harwelden: 2210 S. Main, Tulsa, OK 74114

We do have very fancy, formal, grownup-looking Bylaws that give us a certain cachet among those who care to read them.  The Bylaws include all the information you ever wanted to know about our mission, membership, board of directors, officers, meetings, etc.  We probably need to get them posted on our website...along with our list of officers.  (And yes, we do have a Treasurer who keeps our books!)

We will be making continued efforts to improve the website to make it more informative and useful for anyone who wishes to learn more about TulsaNow.  Hang in there...we're all volunteers with day jobs...so it's a work in progress.

In the meantime, if you browse around on www.tulsanow.org, you will still get a pretty good feel for the organization, and what we're trying to achieve.

The TulsaNow forum is sponsored by TulsaNow as a service to the public, but does not reflect the views, opinions, or mission of TulsaNow.  Participation in the forum does not equal membership in TulsaNow.

Sarah Kobos
President, TulsaNow

(And please be advised that when I post on this forum, I am usually speaking only for myself, unless I specifically indicate that I'm representing TulsaNow.  Please don't assume that every wisecrack or opinion I've ever written on this forum represents an official stance of TN or its Board.  This has been a public service announcement.)

Sarah, if I sign up or donate $100, can I have a tinfoil hat? [;)]

I think any donation larger than the cost of foil might get you a hat. The coffee mug with "NIMBY" printed on the outside requires a $500 donation.

Yesssss!  How do you want me to make out that $500 check?

For a $100 donation, I will personally make you a foil hat.  You may choose from various styles including: sailor, pirate, ballcap, or beanie.

For a $500 donation, I will personally craft a matching set of tinfoil boxers, socks and tie.  One size fits all. (Not recommended for frequent fliers.)
