Hometown

Hillary grew up in Chicago and she is a street fighter.  She was the tough one of the two Clintons.  She was the one that would have the secret service rough up hecklers.  She was the one that would ask the IRS to audit her enemies.  Bill was hampered by believing in the Southern Gentlemen thing.  Hillary knows how to fight. I've been waiting for a strong leader on the left.  Maybe it's going to take Hillary to deliver some punishment to our opponents.  It looks like she has better handlers than Edwards.  I could warm up to Clinton.

Which one E. Honda or Blanka?

I talk differently to different audiences and different people. Its a smart thing to do. I don't cuss and use slang with my clients. But you should hear me playing a good game of V-ball.[8D]  I use my "religious words" when dealing with very religious people and clients. When I am with some of my "salt of the earth" country, family, I talk differently than I would giving an art lecture at a college. Dress differently in most cases too lol.

I heard more of that speech on NPR.  Most of the time she used her normal voice. In the context of the whole speech she didn't slide into her "southern black church" voice as much or as deeply as those clips made it sound. I thought she was very reserved in that respect actually.  But if your inclined to not like her anyway, I am sure the sound of her voice grates on your nerves regardless. lol

If you ask me, between Obama and Clinton, Obama was the one who sounded "more different, far more often" in his speech than Hilary did. Or is it ok for someone like Obama or Oprah to sound northern or white and southern and black depending on the audience, but not ok for a white person like Clinton to sound southern and black?

It's no big deal. When I go back home to central Illinois, I slide back into that rural Midwestern accent and don't even notice it until somebody tells me.

My wife grew up in the far southern part of the state, which has a more pronounced Southern accent. So sometimes I talk like her. And sometimes my wife borrows my farm-boy colloquialisms from me.

And considering that Hillary lived in Arkansas all those decades and married an honest-to-God Southern boy, I'm sure sure comes by the accent honestly. If you're in a place long enough, you assimilate somewhat.

Those who see a controversy here aren't thinking too hard.

(And, no, I'm not a Hillary supporter.)

This is what she said, "I DON FEEL NOWAYS TY-ARD.. I COME TOO FARRR..FROM WHERE I STARTED FROM..NOBODY TOL ME THAT THE ROOOAD WOULD BE EASY!"

BTW RW, I, like you and Hillary, am from Illinois. I have lived in Southwest Missouri and Oklahoma. Under No circumstances could I imagine myself speaking that way.

Trouble is, the passage that you quoted, guido, is her reading lyrics verbatum from a James Cleveland hymn, along with its cadence.

James Cleveland's stuff is really good, by the way. He's one of the most influential gospel composers and choir arrangers of the 20th century. That's his choir and some of his singing that you hear during Aretha Franklin's "Amazing Grace" album.

Off to the next alleged "scandal" we go ...

Im not sure what to make of this.  On one side, perhaps she did slip into it by mistake.  But on the other, she is a professional manipulator - it is unlikely she made this mistake.

She remade herself from a "Southern Bell" to a hard nosed New Yorker in a couple of weeks to get to the Senate.  Then she merged into a moderate blue-dog democrat when whispers of the white house started floating.  Since Lesbian's are hip now I expect the Chelsea's gay announcement at any time.

I dont think she does anything by mistake. She is an intelligent and focused woman.  She learned how to work a crowed by watching her husband, but he was better at it; he could do it as himself.

Having seen the video of the passage in question, I don't think she was trying a Southern accent at all.

She was trying to get the cadence right in the song's lyrics (which she did cite as a James Cleveland song), and it ended up sounding like a lazy drawl.

Oh well. It's not like my vocal rhythm is all that good, either. Ask my wife. [;)]

Oh I'm sorry. I guess Hillary's "black face" routine is okay then.

This is not a scandal. It's an example of liberal hypocrisy which apparently you condone.

You mean Chelsea still hasn't come out?  I figured that one out when she was 13.  Like mother, like daughter.[:O]

Blackface. Hmm. What an extraordinary leap in logic.

Honestly, is that the best you can come up with?

I guess guido sees something that doesn't exist.

Hey, guido, there are invisible gophers biting at your ankles. You'd better get out the RPG launcher and kill them.

RW, I call it as I see it. How do you characterize a whiter than white, Illinois born, New York Senator, caucasian publicly mimicking a black person?

BTW, RW you first excused Hillary's make believe southern drawl because she assimilated to Arkansas life. Then you excused her drawl because she was mimicking a southern gospel hymn. The question to you is do you spin much? Oh,your off the hook because your not a Hillary supporter. Right...
