Good job.

That's correct.  There were hundreds there...allthough I don't have an accurate count.  They not only lined the route, they were also the escorts to graveside.  There was full Military honors as expected.  As far as this Phelps idiot, his people were held beyond the barrier, so there was no interference with the funeral.  The Patriot Guard Riders, Rolling Thunder, I think Christian Riders were there also, as well as the other organizations.....they all did an outstanding job.  State and local police had a strong show of force also....hats off to all of them....they've shown the family a lot of support.  The Oklahoma Blue Star Mothers were also there, to present the family with a gold star, for a fallen soldier.

Porky

Thanks for the info tulsapoolplyr88, this is great too hear.

Fred Phelps (I will not honor him with the title of reverend) is so extreme that the Southern Baptist Convention publicly condemned his teachings. I hope that you all realize how dysfunctional this guy is. I would not hesitate to say that hate is his message, he completely disregards the New Testament, and there is no way that he is a Christian (even if he calls himself such). He is leading a cult... pure and simple.

I am a chaplain candidate (a chaplain in training for the US Army), and a Bible-believing one at that. I am sickened by his message. I mean, this guy honestly believes that anyone who does not follow HIM is going to Hell... forget Jesus. He even protests at Catholic Churches around Topeka during Sunday Mass. I have repeatedly sent Westboro emails of how lost in their ways they are... no, no cursing or condemning was included (nor would I really ever do such a thing). They have done enough for all of us.

I say let them do their thing and televise it  so everyone can learn what complete religious corruption, fanaticism and hatred can do.

It certainly goes a long way towards illustrating that religious extremism knows no national boundaries (I wonder what Al Jazerra makes of it), but the fact that we still live in a place where government shock troops arent forcibly suppressing such demonstrations speaks volumes as to the integrity of the American way of life.

Im of the understanding the Phelps cult is mostly family members, and most of them are attorneys.  I hadnt thought it possible for the legal profession to get a worse rap.

I hate to say it, but I think that many of these anti-protest laws specifically created against Phelps & Co. probably will get overturned on constitutional grounds.

Jeez Louise. I will go to the wall for the Bill of Rights and, say, Jimi Hendrix and his "Star Spangled Banner." But the Constitution was meant for sh*ts like Phelps, too.

Not that I like his tactics any less.

I'm writing them an extended email in response to their video excerpts discussing the reason for all their "lovely" signs.

Watch with caution. These guys are fueled by the shock factor

You're email will either not be read at all, or read with a smile.  You are correct, they want the shock factor and the you're email will tell them it is working.

I generally try to ignore them.  For the sake of friends and family I understand it is impossible to ignore them at a funeral, so Im glad people step up and drown them out.  Otherwise, he can hate all he wants and I'll just chuckle at him.

Some news channels finally caught on and gave the UIG's no air time.

The faction is not about ideology...it's about inciting a lawsuit so they can sue you.

Money, that's their deal.

Think of a fly landing on the rump of a cow. This is how much attention the situation calls for.

It's good to have a foe but there are better options out there.

QuoteThe Supreme Court has ruled that the First Amendment protects fundamentalist church members who mount attention-getting, anti-gay protests outside military funerals.

The court voted 8-1 Wednesday in favor of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan. The decision upheld an appeals court ruling that threw out a $5 million judgment to the father of a dead Marine who sued church members after they picketed his son's funeral.

Atleast Justice Alito was correct on the decision.  What a horrible day for our Country.  So yelling "fire" in a movie theater isnt protected by the constitution, but this pathetic excuse for a human beings message is? wow.

Now that the Supremes have made their decision I wouldn't be surprised if another type of punishment befalls the family.

My stepson and his friend told me last night that this Church and their fine cast of characters are going to protest the funeral's of the kid's who died saturday morning in Okmulgee. They had been at a all night party and were drinking and crashed two motorcycles into one another head on doing 50 miles a hour.
All four of them died. And since alcohol was involved in the deaths, the Church feels that they need to protest the evil the children were involved in.
The two from Bixby are the ones that my stepson and his friends knew.
Wonderful example grown adults are trying to teach our children today.
They must have missed the whole God is Love part of the word.

First off, only three people were involved.

Secondly, this really pisses me off because (this is me showing my age) I attend Bixby High School. I didn't know this girl but it saddens me that her family will have to endure this. I actually know her youth pastor quite well.

Sorry bout that. He called me Saturday night upset and I thought he told me four people were involved. He also told me they all were wearing helmets and the news said two of them werent.

Yeah, a lot of the initial reports were probably incorrect. We had an incident in my family once and every news station's initial reports were wrong. I have not trusted breaking news since.
