A special meeting of the Tulsa Preservation Commission has been called for Wednesday, March 14, 2007 from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M.
City Council Conference Room, 2nd Floor CITY HALL

The purpose of this meeting is to hear and discuss an American Planning Association audioconference entitled "Maintaining Neighborhood Character."  During the conference, we will listen to a discussion via the telephone and view the PowerPoint using an online portal. There will be a question and answer period, and time for discussion.  Planners can get continuing education credits.

TMAPC is hosting.  TPC, Board of Adjustment, Tulsa Metropolitan Area Planning Commission, City Coucil, INCOG and the general public are invited to attend.  Chip Ard, TMAPC chair, will moderate.  Seating is limited.

Please try to attend if your schedule allows, as there should be a lot of useful information on a very hot topic.  Please pass the announcement on to those you think might be interested.

American Planning Association Audio Conference:  Maintaining Neighborhood Character

From the American Planning Association:
"Many historic neighborhoods are experiencing rapid teardowns and the rebuilding of monster homes or other buildings that undermine smart growth principles. For historic and conservation districts this is a pressing issue. Learn how communities have developed codes and guidelines, as well as community visioning programs, that respond to these incompatible developments. As communities grow and change, explore how historic preservation can be successfully linked to new development. Cosponsor: National Alliance of Preservation Commissions."

A little less than a year ago Good Morning America did a series on this trend...

Glad to see that Tulsa is having this meeting.

Ever seen that episode of South Park where the people savor the smell of their own farts. It's kinda like that.

Dunder Mifflin is a mid-cap regional paper and office-supply distributor with an emphasis on servicing small-business clients.

My eyes are brown after all. As far as being educated goes, maybe in the way Matt Damon's character was educated in Good Will Hunting. I'm just a smart donkey greaser with a library card and enough disposable income to afford access to the internet and TGOV on cable.

Say chill out hombres I got the joke from a plumber I knew in Calif. named of all things Gary Plummer...

Plummer the Plumber... He had many tasteless sayings like "fart smeller" instead of smart fellow.... etc. etc.

Did not mean any offense........

It just seemed to fit..

Now you tell me.... The heir apparent to Office Depot may be hunting me for liable.......

Back on topic..... drove by a housing addition where they were installing a McMansion.....

They (channel 6 or something) had a News crew filming it...

So I guess the meeting today may make the News.

Speaking of plumbers, ya know how to tell a plumber from a pipe fitter?

Bury 'em side by side up to their necks in sh*#t and swing a 2x4 at 'em. The plumber will duck.

Good presentation, BTW. There were representatives from the Council, BOA, TMAPC, TPC, City Planners and even some Tulsa Now folks. Noticeably absent were the Mayor or any of her Deputy Mayors.

Larry Wofford

Weldon Tisdale
Stacey Bayles *

Why is John Smalligo on the steering committee? He doesn't live in the city of Tulsa. Doesn't this conflict with a recent amendment to our charter?

"SHALL THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF
TULSA BE AMENDED TO PROVIDE
MEMBERS
OF
CITY
BOARDS,
COMMISSIONS, AUTHORITIES, AND
AGENCIES SHALL BE RESIDENTS AND
QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF TULSA"

The ordinance specifies "authorities, boards and commissions". This is just a committee. There is a difference in how they operate and what their powers are.

It looks like a balanced group to me. The trick will be for the rest of us to attend every public meeting and let our interests be known. This is a perfect opportunity for groups like TulsaNow to help lead discussion.

I think the intent of this Charter amendment is clear and does include this committee. If he stays on this committee or anyone else who does not qualify as a resident and qualified elector, it will be decided in the courts.

Da Mare seems hell bent on violating the charter every chance she gets.

That is over the top and wrong. It does fit your pattern of attacking the Mayor on everything she does, however. Are you going to attack whatever comes out of this committee just because the Mayor appointed it?

Many business people work in Tulsa and live outside of Tulsa. They have a say in how our city discusses restrictions on their livelihood.

When the committee receives input and discusses options, we all will have a chance to provide input. After that, any changes will have to be voted on by an authority, board or commission.
Power is nothing till you use it.
