A Russian news agency has reported that the US has begun a military buildup on the borders of Iran.  The article makes it VERY clear that Russia believes an attack is forthcoming as Britain severs diplomatic ties with Iran following the capture of British Marines who are planned to be displayed as war captives:

Meanwhile, Indian journalists seem to think a strike is somewhat likely if tensions continue to escalate, but an all out war must be avoided by both sides at all costs:

Lets see:

Asshat dictator who makes inflammatory statements - check

Ambitions to get WMDs and a refusal to allow UN inspectors access - check

Nationalistic claims to nearby territory - check

Generally abusive central government - check

Oil implications - check

History of alliance with this country that has since turned to a more recent history of conflict - check

Massive US military presence in the area - check

Total unwillingness of the UN or Russia to resolve the situation - check

Alarming to be sure.  Buy your oil while its cheap, because the markets wont miss this excuse to ratchet up oil prices.

** it should be noted that Iran and Russia were close cold war allies and Russia is currently providing the nuclear materials for Iran though Iran is now refusing to pay.  On top of that, remember that in Russia the state again controls the media.  So any Russian reports are suspect.

It sounds about right.  We brought in a second carrier months ago, we're ramping up our presence in Iraq.  The prez stated in his last State of the Union, that Patriot Missile batteries were going to Iraq.  Why would you send Patriot Missiles, unless you expected retaliation?  We sent Patriots before the Gulf War, and before the Iraq War.  Patriot Missiles are an invasion signal.

Why is anything meant to protect us, but is also a sign of trouble always name "patriot." (the missile, the act..)
