I hope our City Councilors understand the implications of their re-election chances if they pass EMSA's tax today.

This is NOT an emergency, and is a totally improper way to achieve the payment of a bill, for which we have Mayor Taylor to thank.

Even IF needed, this is exactly the wrong way to achieve funding.

Tulsa has never used the upfront approach to adding more taxes on its citizens.  They  take the back door route where the citizens have no right to vote an approval on the proposition .  By doing this they can double the amount needed and add some for the bureaucracies in city hall under the cost of billing.   Non-emergencies ordinances passed with the emergency clause and fees circumvents the right of the citizen to petition against the act.

It all has deep roots under "this is the way we have always done it".

There is.  Not sure where I saw the number to call, but I bet you could call downtown and find out.

They have no trouble stuffing the water bill with much useless information.  If they wanted to be upfront they could include the form needed in the water billing.   I would assume the possible $180k + extra that was added is to reimburse the water authority yearly to add the EMSA tax on the bill.  At present it is like they are holding a gun pointed at your head and saying "Should you opt out because you don't think you can have an emergency them we will pull the trigger so you will have one".

The citizens have been taken again.
