Those who think it is a luxury have only a fragment of a mind. Mans spirit grows hungry for art in the same way h

Consolation After Thai Coup: Buying a Soccer Club

BANGKOK, May 2 â€" Ousted as prime minister in a coup last September, Thaksin Shinawatra has made a move to console himself with the possible purchase of an English soccer club.

In a statement on Tuesday, he confirmed that he had made an “indicative proposal for Manchester City, a first step toward the possible purchase that allows him to examine the books of the club, which is in the north of England.

The news made the front pages of newspapers in Thailand today, where Mr. Thaksin still sometimes steals the limelight from the generals who ousted him.

Hate to be the one to point it out .... but a certain USR was for both soccer and Wal-Mart.

Is Communism behind the planned development in the East End?

Its a giant mess to be sure.  Their actual holdings are skewed by their currency manipulation, but they have piles of money.

The communists renounced any national debt after the revolution so they started debt free in 1948.  With basically no public welfare and nationalization of EVERYTHING the state acquired huge amounts of wealth (umm, all of it).  It should come as no surprise that they are sitting on piles of cash especially as they embrace free markets and watch their country bring in foreign money.

That said, they can be a profoundly positive force for the American economy or ruin it.  I foresee a positive force since it is in their interest to keep American consumers consuming.  Lets hope so...  perhaps they can fund venture capitalists to go on another crazy boom.  But this time, when the bubble burst American's have pocketed high salaries and China is out the capital.   [:P]
