Something to do in this town

Ok seriously, that was just plain rude.  I don't know of any places in Tulsa.  The last jazz bar I went to was in Dallas, kind of hidden just south of West End.  Great venue, great music, great food, me and my companion the only white faces in the room.  Loved it.  Think it was called Mr. C's, but I'm really not sure.

I probably would have Googled "Tulsa & Jazz" and came across the list of several jazz clubs in town.  Or you could go to Pollstar.com and see who is playing in Tulsa tonight.  Or maybe asked in a way that did not portray yourself as an underage moron.

Where have you tried as of yet?

Brookside?
Boston?
Blue Dome?
Brady?
Cherry Street?

If you haven't tried any of those little bar districts than you aren't even trying.  I know of several nice little bars that usually have live music - but I don't want to taint them with a rude, uneducated little shi!t like you.

The Continental, check it out.  

Brian Haas plays there all the time.  Great jazz music sometimes, but you have to visit several times before you get a feeling of who plays there and who you like.

Jazzcow is fantastic, Brian Haas is exceptional, Harmonious Monk...yeah, not so much.  Tulsa just lost a fantastic jazz vocalist to San Fran about a month ago who played there all the time.  www.erinaustin.com

Jazz is hard to find in Tulsa, but what is around is generally good stuff.

I've tried all those outlets.  There is nothing to do in this town unless you're old, or go to church 24/7.

lol, I am neither old nor do I attend church... let alone 24/7, yet I find plenty of do in this town.

Is it Chicago, NY or Chicago - where you assured to find world class Jazz any night of the week?  Of course not.  Expecting such would make you an utter fool.

You have been to all 300+ bars in the Tulsa area and have found none that fit your needs?  In that case I would strongly suggest you open up an establishment, clearly there is a niche to be filled.  Think of all the money you would make.

Or... you could find out what's going on at Expo this weekend, go to ad Driller's game, the Tallon's are in season, there are 3 world class museums since your into culture.  For that matter, the Tulsa Symphony is wrapping up their season.  There are always interesting plays or performances at the PAC.  Though not in season the Tulsa Ballet puts the Dallas one to shame.

If culture isnt really your thing, there are 5 major lakes within a couple hours of here.  Go out and rent a boat and go skiing or fishing.  There are many good hiking trailers and camp sites nearby also.  Hell, you can even visit working ranches not too far away.

If you like being outdoors without being "outdoorsy" there are several wineries nearby, most of them have music on Friday's and Saturdays.

If that fails every city has movies, books, painting, photography, and a plethora of other common activities.  Or you could spend some time making yourself fully literate. OR better yet, stop up traffic on I-244 this rush hour by jumping off the Harvard overpass.

There is something to the adage that a person that can find nothing to do - is them self a boring person.  Speaking of which, this conversation is getting boring.

Try the Jazz club downtown near 6th and Elgin. Delasandro`s around 18th and Boston. They will have someone playing there from time to time.

Once the new Jazz Hall of Fame opens they will have regular concerts and performances.  It is going to be a great new venue and addition to downtown. http://www.okjazz.org/   Some places like Lolas and Club 209 have different performers of all stripes including the occasional Jazz musicians. http://www.lolasatthebowery.com/lolas%20web/home.html  http://www.club209tulsa.com/

One bet is to find the website or myspace type page for a performer or group you like and see what venues they will be at and when.

I am 32 and have no problem finding something to do that has nothing to do with church. Live bands, comedy shows, occassional concert, regional sporting events, etc. But I guess getting off my butt to actually find something may be something I am doing different then you may be doing.

To be fair, it can be hard to find something to do in Tulsa when you never leave the couch in your mother's house in Houston and all you ever see of Tulsa is Richard Roberts on the TV.
