Well for those who supported Lambruscoz, pat on the bat. It was a hit. The pies were rated as follows:
1st place - Apple
2nd place - Pecan
3rd place - Cherry

Told ya! [:)]

But the question is...did you get some white queso and chips?

No, I walked in and a lady asked if she could help. I told her I had ordered pie and she told me to go stand by the register. I didn't really see the store.

Please no one lambast me for my statements, for they are strictly my own personal opinion, but here goes:

Of course, nothing can beat a homemade pie, made from fresh, quality ingredients and baked by a competent baker, but for my money, I see absolutely nothing wrong with Mrs. Smiths frozen pies.  I buy them quite often.  Local grocers often have them on sale and the coupon section in the Sunday World often has $1 off coupons for Mrs. Smiths pies.  $2.00-$2.50 for a large, hot, fresh out of the oven fruit pie is a pretty good deal these days.  I buy them when I see store specials and I also have a coupon.  I find local grocery/bakery pies somewhat lacking, however good their intentions are.

The Mrs. Smiths pie company is now owned by the Schwanns food service company.  You see those Schwanns home delivery trucks around town.  For my money, they make a pretty darn good pie, and baking it youself and having it fresh out of the oven is the best.

Of course, you can always slip a frozen Mrs. Smiths pie out of its packaged tin and into your own glass or metal pie plate.  This is much easier to do while the pie is still frozen, prior to baking, and I would recommend a light shade aluminum pie pan, lightly Crisco greased.  Of course, I have never done this myself, just hearsay. (Wink)

I think some may be turned off to frozen baked items because they have had poor results due to a faulty oven.  Get an oven thermometer and check to see how accurately your oven is calibrated.  You may be surprised how off it is.

For some incredible pies, take the 30 minute drive down to Okmulgee to Colemans.  Those are some good pies.  The cream pies are the best, the fruit pies delicious, the pecan pie to swoon for.  And while your there, get a burger for the drive home.

Above it was posted that the coleman's pie lady now bakes for lambruscoz.

I don't know about that, but I do know the pies at Coleman's are  the best.  I was down there last week.  Great fillings, nice flakey crusts, and meringue all day long one the cream pies.

Mrs. Smiths pies are or were made in Stilwell, Oklahoma. Home of the "Stilwell Tops" back in the day.  No wonder they are sooo good, close to the munchies factory.

Got this:

I regret to inform you that we have lost one of our favorite restaurants to the economy and road construction.  As of Sunday, June 12th at 5:00 p.m., Marie Callenders was forced to shut its doors.  Marie Callenders has been a part of our delivery network for the past 9 years and we will all miss their great comfort food and delicious pies.  (Looks like some of us will have to start cooking Thanksgiving dinners again)

742dine still has a large variety of restaurants to offer so don't let this stop you from calling us for delivery.  But this notice hopes to ward off frustration by letting you know in advance that Marie Callender's is no longer operating in Tulsa.
