Actually I saw something about the promoters purchasing carbon offsets and that generators used biofuels. There were a few other environmental considerations, too.

Buying "carbon offsets" doesn't change the fact the individuals still contributed to the problem.
Buying "carbon offsets" sounds like a scam so someone can be a hypocrite all they the want.

Wouldn't you rather be part of the solution?

It probably is a waste of time.  Still, that Al Gore is wasting his time to promote environmental concerns, something he's done as long as I've been aware of him, is probably not a bad thing.

Only a fool would believe that man gave a crap about the environment. When he is saying do as I say not as I do he basically discrediting the the man-made global warming conspiracy theorist nut job group.Because if he really believed what was coming out of his mouth he would live in green home(which he has the money to do),a small home, have a rain water collection system on his house, drive a fuel efficient car, live closer to work, fly on a commercial passenger plane instead of a private jet when he had to fly.

Al Gore is the equivalent of a church preacher who tells his congregation to not sin while at the same time he gambles, commits adultery, steals and commits other sins from the bible.

A.How is contributing to what they believe is the problem part of the solution? If these environuts believed in what they preached they would not be contributing to the problem.Would you have a hotdog eating contest to fight obesity or T-bone steak eating contest to promote vegetarianism?

B.I don't believe in the man-made global warming conspiracy theorist nonsense,I believe climate change is a natural occurring event in nature regardless if it is a minute or severe change in the weather.

Everyone's a hyprocrite.

I see jamesrage's views have reverted back into usual winger self-parody.

I guess lucidity was too good to last.

President Bush does...

I would think that if Gore and these other environuts  really believed what they were saying they would be practicing what they preach, especially Gore since he can afford to build a completely green earth friendly house and afford to buy hybrid cars.

The show was a TV flop, drawing less than a third of the audience who tuned in last week for the Concert for Diana. Live Earth peaked with 4.5 million viewers in Britain, compared with 14.8 million for the Diana concert.

snip..

Two years ago, Live 8 drew a peak television audience of 9.6million while Live Aid notched 10million in 1985.

The BBC blamed the poor figures on Saturday's good weather and said its Wimbledon tennis coverage had drawn away afternoon viewers.

Critics said however that the public had simply snubbed what they saw as a hypocritical event.

Musicians including Bob Geldof, Roger Daltrey and the Pet Shop Boys pointed out that a concert highlighting climate change had itself generated huge carbon emissions.

Performers were criticised for flying to concerts that were staged simultaneously on seven continents.

The mounds of rubbish left by the 65,000 concert-goers at Wembley further tarnished the event's green credentials.

Organisers claimed most of the waste would be sorted and recycled but the Daily Mail saw little evidence of that taking place.

The Alliance for Climate Protection event was organised by Al Gore, the former U.S. vice-president and environmental campaigner.

Gore's mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore's average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore's energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore's extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore's mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.
