Yes, but thankfully, no where near your house in Nutsville, OK.

I probably should upgrade to a Radio Flyer, or bigger wheels, or less Tequila.

I suggest the latter...a tequila hangover is the nastiest type of all.

Geez IP -- so the signs don't bother you. They bother me and a lot of other people and guess what? They are illegal. They have been creeping across the borders for years unchecked and now it's finally time to stand up and say no more! They are weakening our tax base, using precious resources and...they're illegal. What part of illegal do you not get.

It undermines their hard work as well.

BTW -- that's not my finger. My dad took them for me. I get my sign nazi-ism from him.

He gives the crape myrtles two weeks. With rain, I bet they live at least three.

NellieBly

I wasn't a hall monitor. I was a crossing guard.

It won't be the rain or no rain that kills them...it's the cars driving over them that'll end the age of myrtle.

Re-read my post carefully.  I agree to certain extent with you, but it's a matter of moderation for me.  This is a case where the signs could have stayed with little ill effect.  Completely and totally different from cheap, cluttered signs on 71st.  I'm sure you see the difference between the two, or maybe you don't...

Saying it's illegal is of little value to me.  There are many, many things that go on in Tulsa on a daily basis that are "illegal."

Was it worth potentially pissing off business owners that paid for the landscaping?  Are you the one that we should thank should there be no flowers there next year?

NellieBly

I don't agree because these are cheap plastic signs with absolutely no appeal except to distract the drivers and pedestrians from the beautification efforts they worked hard on.

MichaelC

Speaking of cheap plastic, there is a median on 71st Street that has a granite monument in the middle saying something to the effect of "this area beautified by" BOK or BOA or whoever.  Don't remember.

Is that preferable?  Are you opposed to all signs, or just trashy signs?

NellieBly

I haven't pissed off anyone, I am pointing out the hypocrisy of their patting themselves on the back for their efforts and undermining it at the same time. I haven't pulled the signs or called anyone about them. Well, I did report it to the MAC. They are illegal and the mayor has stated she wants to fine illegal signage.

I don't mow my yard then put up signs declaring what a great citizen I am for doing such. They should be responsible for the beautification of Brookside. They do business there and it is important to them the area looks nice.

NellieBly

I don't hate the BOK signs on 71st, but it is nothing more than advertising and that is illegal.

RecycleMichael

I gotta agree with Nellie Bly on this one.

It is excellent that they worked so hard and the touch of garden makes the entire area better, but the signs detract from the beauty of their work.

What is the purpose of the sign except to make sure that the proper group gets credit?

And, yes...the signs are illegal. I am sure the group knows that. I just hope they take the signs down on their own after a couple of days.
Power is nothing till you use it.

I'm opposed to activities that can produce net negative effects and create bad blood between business owners doing good deeds and the city (a city that I might add which is having a particularly difficult time keeping Tulsa attractive).

If you can't see the difference in the signs they put up, from the boner meds, and cheap loan signs, then I can't help you.

Of course you do.  Didn't you start this whole troop of C.O.P.s in the first place?

RecycleMichael

I can't take credit for the sign enforcement policy changes.

Mayor Taylor and Councilor Martinson worked in a bi-partisan way to address this issue at the end of 2006. I just agreed and tried to help.

The illegal signs bother me. It is ok with me that they don't bother you, but don't attack us for trying to keep Tulsa beautiful and enforcing reasonable laws found in most cities.

I guess we all have differing definitions of reasonable, and busting the balls of generous business owners doesn't fall within mine.
