There used to be a Maid-Rite here. It was at 21st, j1 block west of Mewmorial. They always had coupons in the paper. A friend was in there one day and the cook/owner/whoever was getting after an employee saying, to paraphrase, "you use this meat for the coupon orders not this meat". Opps. It closed down not long after that.

I would love to see an Ed Debvics, In & Out Burger, East Side Marios, Nellos Pizza, 94th Aero Squadern, and a Texas Grill. TG at 16st and Bethany Home in Phoenix has the best chicken frid steak and it was hugh!

It'll never happen, but I'd love to have a Ted Drewes' Frozen Custard stand, based in St. Louis.

He's turned down many, many offers to franchise. But he insists the quality of his product would suffer.

I like Panera's bagels, but they aren't really traditional bagels to me.

We need an Einstein Bros or a Bruegger's. You can get Einsein Bros in Target, but it's not the same at all.

The wifey was just talking about how she wished there was a Friendly's here. Popular in Pennslyvania, it's owned by Hersheys. Pretty good food and great ice cream.

"10438 S 82nd E Avenue"? is that even in tulsa?

that's going to be in Regal Plaza.  Not sure how they are going to get it completed by Sept 17th as most of those buildings are just shells.  I wish we could get an act of congress to change the zip code boundaries to better reflect the city limits.  They are tulsa by address only.

I'm from Iowa, the first time I went to a Maid-Rite (maybe i was 12-13) they asked me if I wanted my burger made right... puzzled, I responded that of course I did.  I was in great despair when they gave me a sloppy joe.  [:P]

Taco John's.

6 Tacos and a pound Potato Olay's (tater' tots with mexican spices) for like $5.  Mmmm.

I lived on that for several years when I lived in Indiana

A few "White Castles" would be nice, or a "Steak 'N' Shake"- However I think "What-A-Burger" is about the best restaurant around for quick fast burgers at a good price. I wish we had them in the Mid-West. I also like "Hooters" Restaurants. I don't get to eat there offten but when I do I find it a real treat. The service is super and everyone is friendly and the food is good & served right- The "hot" food is always hot the "cold" food is always cold as it should be. I never had  bad service at a Hooters. But I'm sure theres a few lazy workers at a Hooters somewhere. There always is.[:)]

Emailed the Maid-Rite headquarters in Iowa about there being a Maid-Rite in Tulsa, their reply.

"We have never had a Maid-Rite franchise restaurant in Tulsa , Oklahoma.  Possibly the restaurant mentioned below was not a true franchise and had to close due to trademark laws.

Tulsa, Oklahoma is an area that we would be very interested in talking to any party about concerning becoming a franchisee or area developer for the Oklahoma market.

Thank you for your interest in Maid-Rite!

ummm, possibly the secretary is an idiot... she is dead wrong and probably has no way of knowing (see below)... i knew the owner (coach wally knapp from nathan hale) and his hired help all were from hale... hell, i'm pretty sure that coach knapp and his wife even traveled to the original shop in muscatine, ia... that store was most certainly an authentic maid rite franchise...

wiki:
"Angell was a butcher in Muscatine, Iowa, who combined a special cut and grind of meat with a selected set of spices and created the Maid-Rite sandwich, which is not a traditional hamburger. Rather, it is called a "loose meat" sandwich. While the component meat is similar, the Maid-Rite sandwich's meat is not formed into a patty, making it similar to a sloppy joe only without the tomato-based sauce. After a customer sampled the food, the customer exclaimed that the sandwich was "made right." Angell modified the "made" to "maid," reflecting the wholesomeness of the sandwich.

Angell opened his first restaurant in Muscatine, which was a walk-up restaurant. Later, a new eat-in building was opened. Along with his son Francis Angell, a second restaurant was opened that featured a "car hop" or drive-in service. This was the first such service of this kind in the United States, with A&W Restaurants and White Castle Restaurants following this type of service shortly thereafter.

The first franchise was opened in Durant, Iowa, which still maintains a Maid-Rite restaurant. Maid-Rite began to grow in the number of franchises throughout the United States under the direction of William Angell, the grandson of the founder. The Angell family would have controlling interest in the franchise until 1984, when it was sold to a partnership of Clayton Blue, a farmer from Russell, Iowa, and John Gillotti, a contractor from Des Moines. (The original Maid-Rite restaurants in Muscatine were sold to Gary Kopf, a local businessman who also operated vending companies, family restaurants and bakeries.) Blue had plans to expand the chain into a worldwide operation and sell stock to the public; however, after Blue defaulted on the contract to buy Maid-Rite, Gillotti purchased the chain outright in 1988. Gillotti died in 1991, prompting a legal battle between Blue's family and Gillotti's heirs over ownership of the chain. After an injunction was issued by the Polk County District Court in 1992 that prohibited any new Maid-Rite franchises, the Gillotti family was awarded ownership of the 138-store chain in 1995. However, issues with franchise fees and product quality led to a number of restaurants closing; by 2002 the number of Maid-Rite stores had dropped to 83.[1]

In 2002, an investor group led by former Des Moines banker Bradley Burt purchased a majority interest in the Maid-Rite chain, with the Gillotti family retaining an interest. While up to 20 longtime franchisees left Maid-Rite during the first two years of its new ownership, Maid-Rite began to use computerized systems to control expenses, started offering ten-day courses on how to prepare Maid-Rite food to new franchise owners, and created a new uniform decor for its restaurants that retains the nostalgia of the Maid-Rite brand. According to the Des Moines Register, Maid-Rite has a ten-year plan to open more than 1,000 restaurants throughout the United States.[2]"

They had a Maid-Rite at 91st and Sheridan where the tag agency is now. Kinda scary to hear about two different meat trays...but I always loved the loose meat hamburgers there. Guess I'm glad I never used a coupon.

I'd love for Krystal's Hamburgers (the deep south's answer to White Castle) to come into town.
