I don't get that from the post or the thread title Mister Swake...

Many have been saying that they want the streets fixed before the "river"...

How convenient that they hold a press conference regarding a plan to fix the streets..



That being said, I will reserve judgment on the "street" plans until I hear more of the facts.

Mayor Kathy Taylor and Councilor Bill Martinson on Thursday announced the formation of a panel that will look at how the city can best plan, fund and contract needed street repairs.

Dewey Bartlett Jr. and Sharon King Davis will lead the panel, which is expected to deliver a report by Dec. 1.

Taylor stopped short of saying that it is the first step toward putting together a streets tax package to send to voters.

"I think that's putting the cart before the horse," she said. "We have to look at all funding options that are available to us."

You'd think Tulsa had a population of 200, and no population east of Yale or north of 15th Street, the way the same people get recycled to head "blue ribbon" commissions.

If Taylor and Martinson were serious about a plan to fix the streets, they might bring in someone with some experience in the subject -- say, a former Street Commissioner like Jim Hewgley, or some of the city engineers and managers from back when we had decent streets.

Or you might prefer a Tulsa World commenter's gut reaction.

Misogyny? I suspect most of the people who complain about Kathy Taylor and Randi Miller could give you a long list of female politicians whom they have supported, even when running against male politicians in the same party. I certainly can:

I campaigned for State Rep. Pam Peterson in a 2004 primary where she ran against and handily defeated four male opponents.

After she beat me in a primary in 1998, I campaigned for Anna Falling for City Council, supported her again in 2000 (when some people were encouraging me to challenge her in a primary), and backed her in her primary and runoff for County Commissioner.

In 2002, I was involved with the campaigns of Denise Bode for AG and Dana Murphy for Corporation Commissioner, who both had tough primaries against male opponents.

In 2000 and 2002, I was involved with (hangs head in embarrassment) Randi Miller's campaigns  for City Council and County Commission.

I was involved with the campaigns of Brigitte Harper and Edith Shoals for State Senate and State House in north Tulsa, Sue Tibbs, and Nancy Riley (before she converted).

And like any good conservative, I'm a Margaret Thatcher fan.

Your misogyny charge is a baseless insult. It is an attempt to shut down any criticism of the actions or qualifications of an elected official or public figure who happens to be female and happens to agree with you.

So there's a kind of Title IX for snark?

I can't speak for the person who posted that comment, but I suspect it's because Davis has a much higher public profile than Bartlett at the moment. I'm not excited about either of them in charge of this effort, but at least Bartlett, as a former city elected official, has some claim to expertise.
