OKLAHOMA CITY – Indictments unsealed Tuesday revealed that three people associated with last year's Taxpayer Bill of Rights petition drive have been indicted by the multicounty grand jury.Rick Carpenter, chairman of Oklahomans in Action, which sponsored the drive; Susan Johnson, president of National Voter Outreach, which conducted the signature-gathering process for the effort, and Paul Jacob, with Citizens in Charge, are accused of conspiracy to defraud the state, a felony.Carpenter, Johnson and Jacob appeared Tuesday afternoon before Oklahoma County District Judge Bryan Dixon for the reading of the indictment.Carpenter, of Tulsa, is also accused of violating the state's initiative petition law, also a felony.Jacob has also been associated with U.S. Term Limits, a national organization that has funded state petition drives.Citizens in Charge is a Virginia group aimed at increasing voters' rights to launch ballot petition drives. As the three defendants were being led in handcuffs from the courtroom, Jacob said loudly and repeatedly, "This is what happens when people petition their government?"...

...Grand jurors alleged the three enlisted out-of state circulators to come to Oklahoma "with full knowledge and understanding" the circulators intended to leave once the drive was over.

Under state law, a circulator must be a bona fide Oklahoma resident over 18 years old.

"We view this charge as very serious," said prosecutor Joel-lyn McCormick, an assistant attorney general. "Oklahomans are supposed to decide for Oklahomans, not people from Minnesota or Massachusetts or Nevada or the numerous other places where circulators were brought in from."...

I hunted and hounded these illegal signature gatherers all over Tulsa. They were also circulating the ill-fated petition to subvert representative democracy in Tulsa with At-Large Councilors sponsored by "Tulsans for Bitter Government". Maybe we'll get to see a few of the folks behind that frogmarched on a perp walk before this is all said and done.

Please, this is a mercenary front organization that goes state to state pulling these scams for corporate big money fat cats, not freedom loving grassroots Oklahomans. I hope they rot in jail.
