.. that beeline furniture is going out of business due to work on the beeline?

I'm thinking of opening "Eminent Domain Chevrolet" right next to I-44.

No, not really.  I think they will re-emerge as an annoying furniture store at 51st & Sheridan and keep closing and re-opening every six months from now on.

From what I've gotten from investigative news stories on TV, that whole "Quitting Business" sales thing that furniture stores do so often is little more than a gimmick. I wouldn't be at all surprised if so many of them reopen with the same owners under a different name.

Steve

I have thought it deceptive, or at least odd that their TV/newspaper advertisements say a "forced" going-out-of-business sale.  They may have to relocate due to highway bridge or overpass construction, but no one is forcing them out of business or preventing them from relocation.

I think I read that the owners say they can't stay in business with the name "Beeline" if they are not on the U.S. 75 beeline.  Pretty lame excuse.  I am a past customer of theirs; all the mattress sets and LazyBoy sofa/loveseat in my den came from Beeline.  This bit of being "forced" out of business is just a marketing tactic.

Still not as bad nor as annoying as car dealers.  "Test Market Pricing!" "We will take all offers to the sales manager" (no crap, that's pretty much how it works) "We accept all credit applications" (doesn't mean they can get the paper bought by a lender) "Selling a distressed dealer's inventory" "Repo sale"

My all time favorite though was: "Bring your wife and your title and we'll dicker"

I had to run out the beeline on business this morning and dropped off at Beeline Furniture to see if there were any deals.  As suspected, it looked like they had marked everything up to double retail so they could cut the price in half.  No deals there folks, keep driving.

Do you get jumped as soon as you walk in Beeline like Mathis Bros?  I know they gotta make a livin' but when like 6 salespeople annoy you in course of 15 min, forget it!

Aint that the truth on Mathis Bros.   I would rather take a beating than walk in there.

Having worked at one time for the largest holding company of home furnishings manufacturers, I can say that going "To Market" in High Point, NC is absolutely Faaaahb-Yoo-Luss....

I never knew what the "Friends of Dorothy" reception was before that....
