I have to fight the urge to scroll down to the responses everytime. Always regret it when I dive into that mess.

Ugh, those women have let their (gag)"birth stories" [xx(] define them for far too long. That is why they are posting crap nobody cares about and are displaying NO CLASS in the process.  They have held on far too long.  It is so important to them that it's  all they see themselves.  As a mom of 2, I can say I am ECSTATIC  when my kids get through all the baby stages b/c all that newborn/maternity goodness makes me want to puke!

OK, enough.

I found #1's post kind of humorous. Did anybody post a disparaging comment about the size of her son's, "manhood"?

good one.[^]

The comments sections are great.  I think it is bold and daring and everything good for the TW to allow that format.

RecycleMichael

Why would a reputable newspaper allow anonymous and sometimes slanderous comments to be part of their story coverage?

There are plenty of places to comment about the news, why would you want unknown people to be able to counter, spin or outright lie about what your reporter wrote on your own website?

Is it only a way to get more traffic so you can charge higher rates?
Power is nothing till you use it.

I don't know.  But I have to say, I love posting under my pseudonyms.  recyclemichael and WilliamtheArtist.

Just messing with you folks.  I only do impersonations of people nobody knows.

See the first (and so far the sole) comment posted after Saturday's unsigned editorial about the downtown Wal-Mart Supercenter.

(first sentence of editorial)

Let's not panic simply because Wal-Mart has reneged on its plan to build a supercenter in downtown's East Village.

Umm, no one's panicking.

Perfect!  Thanks, Lizzy.

It is great thing, remarkable, I hope they can keep it going.  It is a paradigm shift of enormous magnitude for a media company, and I hope it helps circulation.  They need  advertising to follow the length of the posts, lot of dead space toward the end that could be u$eful . . .

Conan71

It's not the content of the posts so much, well okay yes some of the comments are pretty backwardsass.  The spelling is deplorable.  I don't always hit all my punctuation and spelling, but that's what I get sometimes when I post on the fly.  I'm talking basic spelling.  I shudder to think when someone from Chicago or NY Googles a story from Tulsa and reads the comments.

No wonder the rest of the country still thinks we are a bunch of backwoods hill-jacks

And the rest of the country is dominated by Queen's English-speaking literature graduates? Sheesh. I do not believe that the world thinks we are a bunch of iggnernt hix.

I think the World deserves credit for their revolutionary approach to readers' comments, and not blame for perpetuating the elitist snobbery of the coasts.

Have you ever been to "the coasts"?

It's far better we understand who we are, and strive to improve from there.

Let's not get into promoting something we are not and be what we are at any given time.

Kash, #12 must have gotten all his 411 on this from KRMG.  There's no way in hell he could possibly read the TW with his example of spelling.
