TulsaNow hijacked       Print        E-mail
By David Arnett
Tuesday, 20 November 2007
ImageTulsaNow.org has disappeared from its traditional location.  In an e-mail distributed this afternoon, forum staff report, "TulsaNow is not currently in control of the TulsaNow.org domain name.  That issue is being resolved, but [not quickly]."

Apparently, someone else wanted the URL and paid to reserve it should it become available.  TulsaNow apparently did not pay the re-registration fee in a timely manner.  The details, staff say, are somewhat "gruesome," but they believe they can recapture the original address.

Those addicted to anonymous pontification, insults and firebombing of public policy are encouraged to find the forum at its temporary location (click here) as a dot net.  TulsaNow the organization may also be reached at the dot net address (click here), but content is several months old.

TulsaNow the organization has faded in credibility as the forum has gained in the number of anonymous postings.  The number of real people posting is also declining as idiots set up multiple user names to further egocentric if not truly mad ravings.

While TulsaNow the organization could rally hundreds of civic minded Tulsans to debate Vision 2025 in 2003, only a handful showed this year to hear debate on the Arkansas River Development proposal.

150 is a handful?

I seem to remember seeing the author come in early, gladhand a bit and leave before the even even started.

I'd like to know the inside information about egocentric idiots using mutiple accounts for mad ravings. How would he know that unless...?

Chicken Little

I don't know of a single idiot using multiple handles.  More accurately, we have multiple idiots using single handles.[;)]

cks511

Well, where else can a firebombing, self pontificating fool go to watch it swirl 'bout the bowl.  Good to be back!

cannon_fodder

Gasp!  Anonymous posting on an internet forum.  no way.

Perhaps, now this is just a thought, but maybe people enjoy the open FREEDOM of discussing politics, religion, race, and other hot topics without fearing retribution on any level.  Not only do I not want perspective employers learning my political ideals before they learn my work ethic; but as the author points out, there are nut jobs on the internet.

Good thing all our founding fathers and notable documents were written with their real names... oh wait.

David Arnett called us egocentric?

That would make him ego-universal.
Power is nothing till you use it.

cannon_fodder

It's not that I'm egocentric, it's just that I'm the only person that matters.

I'm offering to swap avatars with Arnett when/if he ever shows back up.  It's more appropriate for him.

Remember that fiasco he called a forum?

I think Friendly Bear was the brain of the group.

Arnett's got room to talk about the relevance of TulsaNow comparing V-2025 and the river tax.  V-2025 could get 60% approval from the voters, a David Arnett-led (more or less) campaign for the river tax could only muster 47.5%.

I thought Tulsa Today had a forum at one time.  It was populated with trolls, nutjobs, and assorted reptiles, so much so that I felt like washing my hands and the keyboard after visiting there.

Sounds like Arnett should spend some time on Usenet.
Ed

May you live in interesting times.

Uncool.  Note that it only took about half a dozen "me too" posts before somebody had nailed this guy/gal.  So, in an indirect way, it sort of underscores the point that, anonymous or not, this is a fairly credible bunch of people and a tenable conversation that they have going.

I can think of lots of "real world" babble, by "very serious people", that can't hold a candle to this.

RecycleMichael

Very serious people?

David hit the nail on the head once again and he needs commended for it, instead of being put down.

I and others have tried to convey this message to all of you before, only to fall on deaf ears. I'm sure David is like I and that is I like many of you but the substance of this forum from being a voice for Tulsa has turned into a chat room of friends.

The Fox23 forum and the Tulsa World forum has now filled in the void for a Tulsa voice.

cannon_fodder

The Tulsa World forum is not really a discussion forum.  It is a place where you might be able to get your opinion posted and then have subordinate comments pasted to it.  From what I can tell, a new opinion is allowed about once a week and attracts about 4 comments.

Fox23 is better, but the activity level is low.  ON a given day 3, maybe 4 topics have any activity.  13 active threads so far this week.  While it does provide a forum for discussion, the activity level is pretty low.

I did not read enough of it to judge the merits of the discussion.  Nor would I be able to set a baseline for what is a good discussion.  At TulsaNow we have frank discussions of pertinent, important and passionate topics.  Some agree, some disagree, and some throw fits.

Any good community will eventually evolve into a  chat room for friends.  Why is that a bad thing?  Must I discuss important things only with non-friends?
