While much of the conversation on here is often "chit chat" there are threads on many topics, including the river, where I have seen some very good discssions and have been able to learn a lot. Whenever a major topic comes up, the debates can become heated, different people join in and offer their perspectives.  We have a pretty good range of people on here, many who keep track of whats going on and who is doing what.  I really enjoy seeing how some discussions evolve, how the information builds and and arguments shake out.

There is a huge range of topics on here, some more serious some, like photo threads or, "I have a cat to sell" lol, less so. The range is nice.  As soon as another major Tulsa topic comes up again, I am sure we will see some good discussions on it.

One thing I noticed though when the TN site went down was that on the first page you barely noticed the "Forum" section. I think it should stand out more if that change could be made.

I and others have tried to convey this message to all of you before, only to fall on deaf ears. I'm sure David is like I and that is I like many of you but the substance of this forum from being a voice for Tulsa has turned into a chat room of friends.

The Fox23 forum and the Tulsa World forum has now filled in the void for a Tulsa voice.

Now, hold up a minute there, Porky.  I remember when you first started posting, your "jokes" and whatnot, how you promoted, then restricted access to, then apparently closed, your own board.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe it's your views that aren't mainstream?  Maybe you and the two or three regulars at the Tulsa World (and their 50 or so sockpuppets) are not the "voice of Tulsa".  Maybe there aren't enough of you to sustain a single board, let alone five or six.

Maybe, when you let people post without fear of retaliation from every vindictive karlrovebot in Tulsa, they end up being a lot like Tulsanow...sort of conservative, sort of liberal, sort of libertarian, and sort of argumentative.

IMO, that's real life.  If you are seeking a "comfortable place", there are plenty of those around.  Unfortunately, they don't get much traffic.  I think I know why.

Hey Porky.... could you see this at the Tulsa World or Fox News......?

I used to belong to a guitar forum, that turned into maybe 30% guitar/music talk, the rest was pretty much a lot like we talk about here.

I think the best community/neighborhood info anyhwere about Tulsa is right here.  I've learned an awful lot about Tulsa from the forum and it's gotten me far more interested in the community.

I like our dysfuntional forum family.  There are people I argue with all the time, but I would never hesitate to sit down and buy them a beer...

...then drag them out back and...

Just kidding!

What Conan said.

I think Porky's and Arnett's "warnings" are hollow. TulsaNow continues to thrive, while Porky's and Arnett's forums were DOA or went belly-up.

If you two are such an experts about forums, why did yours suck?

That's a fair question and you're correct, the forum your referring to that I had did suck. You won't get an argument from me on that one. lol Nor on a couple I attempted after that. But at least I tried and I did learn from my mistakes and now I have a good forum. It's not a large forum but it is a good one and it will grow.

And that's all I'm saying here, get this place back on track if you wish to make it a valid voice for Tulsa. If some of you choose to bash me, go ahead and knock yourself out. But that won't make TulsaNow a valid voice again.

Same goes for me too. I might take you up on that offer. The first rule of fight club is you don't talk about fight club.[;)]

Here's what I've seen.  During elections or major city government decisions, this has been a great sounding board to get both sides of the issue.  Predictably, readership and participation go up when there are major issues in the city, so I'd say TN is pretty relevant, because there's more traffic.  It means people are trying to find information and it's one of the few places which allows interactive discussion on local news and politics.

I'm glad the forum allows anonymity, you never know who you might be talking to on here who otherwise might be restricted from commenting due to their job or other reasons.  I think it allows for more candid conversation.

I've had many pre-concieved notions about issues dispelled or proven by others on this forum.

When there's no major issues, sure TN might seem a little irrelevant but that's par for the course.  Just wait till spring elections, or the report from the roads committee and it's going to seem real relevant again.

Arnett's just pissed TN wasn't his brain-child.
