I am saddened today that Edwards drops out. I just really liked his message of two Americas. We do have a problem with the haves and the have nots and need to do something.  His delegates are not bound. They can go anywhere.

He was probably going to get three hundred of the 1,700 delegates on Super Tuesday. Hillary was going to get 900 and Obama the rest. Why would he drop out now?

My theory...he knew it was going to be almost impossible to beat Hillary after next Tuesday. What gives you a bigger bargaining chip...going to the convention with 500 of the 4,000 delegates to play king-maker or working to unify the party and taking an active role in a new administration?

His endorsement of either Obama or Hillary will be big if he does it this week.

The tale of "Two Americas" would have rung a lot louder if it had not come from the mouth of a wealthy man who has been working with a hedge fund the last few years.

Aside from my general belief that the tools and facilities are in place for anyone to step out of second tier America into top tier America already, That is incredibly disingenuous coming from a "have".

I think Edwards was an idiot running on that message, the average American worker was turned off by it.

A wealthy man can't work to end poverty?

He gives incredible amounts of his money and time to a cause he remembers like no other candidate on that stage. His father really did work in the mill factory.

Compare him to Mitt Romney whose father was president of American Motors and yet tells people how he is a self made businessman who preaches for tax cuts for the rich to stimulate the economy.
Power is nothing till you use it.

Agreed.  His message of eliminating poverty would have garnered more support if he simultaneously vowed to end laziness and apathy as well...

Edwards was a fraud.  Your fellow Democrats have spoken.

I don't begrudge anyone nor their efforts because of their wealth.  I couldn't care less if RM had $1bil, held onto it all, and complained that more should do more to combat poverty (unless that demand meant taking my wealth to do so).  Same for Edwards - the guy worked hard for what he has and gets to the same rights as I do.  To do whatever he pleases with it, and so long has his statements are not hypocritical that's fine with me.

That said, when a wealthy man wants to take mine and everyone else's money and give that money to others - I expect him to be going way above and beyond.  Don't tell me I have to give an extra 2-5% a year if you aren't voluntarily forking over at least that much.  But I don't know RM's nor Edwards finances/charity work well enough to really comment on them.

And of course, I am of the school of thought that the best way out of poverty is with a map.  The government should do nothing more than provide the map and perhaps keep the road clear for people to climb the social ladder. Massive government spending campaigns will not help nearly as much as creating an environment that is conducive to starting and running business of every size and/or encouraging people to get an education.

Now how's THAT for a ramble?

ps. Mitt has certainly earned his own respect. He graduated from Harvard Law, which no idiot can accomplish.  He went to work in MA, no MI where he would certainly of had more of a leg up. He has climbed the corporate ladder at several companies and landed the Olympics gig of his own accord.

I'm sure he was given a solid foundation, but when the strings were cut he was able to stand on his own feet and go up from there.

Again with the red herrings. I get it RM, Edwards is a far better human being than Bush and Romney. Thank you.
Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

Thanks guido...I knew you would come around.

Now can I convince you to recycle?

It's obvious Edwards withdrew to save the country by endorsing Obama before Super Tuesday.

Great job John. You done us proud. Next AG?
Perhaps chief of staff?

No-one wants to have to say "President Mitt"

It just sounds like you elected the Arby's mascot.

I really like the choice of language by Yahoo for the 2 candidates:

Giuliani to exit presidential race today (AP)
John Edwards to quit presidential race (AP)

You see, Edwards "quit" but Giuliani "exit" the race gracefully. Isn't it amazing?

Amusing how easily the simple-minded are amazed. [:P]

Doesn't anyone find it ironic that Edwards exited after visiting Tulsa? Maybe he accidentally tuned into 1170am or read some of these oh so insightful posts.[;)] Combine that with the bombed out appearance of northeast Tulsa and that may have erased all optimism that change can be effected.
