Well, well.  The local Ruling power establishment usually gets exactly what they want.

This time, they got even a little more.

They wanted City Councilor Chris Medlock out of office.

And, they got certainly it.

He decided to not run for re-election, instead decided to run for Mayor against an incumbent from his own party.

For you to act like it was some conspiracy against him is absurd. I think some of that honey youv'e been eating has turned into mead, foolish bear.
Power is nothing till you use it.

The local ruling establishment, sensing a threat against an unpopular establishment Mayor, brought Commissioner Randi "Pool-Boy Toy" Miller into the race at the last minute as the Spoiler to best siphon off Medlock's core constituency.

While they lost reliable Bill MisFortunate, a political hack who ran as a Reformer yet Reformed NOTHING, they chose a close relative of the denizens of the local moneyed elite:

Chatty Kathy Taylor.  Although extremely high maintenance to the taxpayers, she is also thoroughly reliable to make absolutely no changes which threatens the Government funded Honey Pot for the local Oligarch Familias.

But, in the most perverse of possible outcomes, Medlock then loses a race for State Representative, becomes unemployed, and then Abracadabra, Alakazaam:  VOILA!

Becomes a Host on a local Conservative Radio Morning Show.

Talking regularly about his favorite topic:

Local Public Policy.

AND, most importantly, providing a public forum for dissenters and mavericks where the ruling Oligarch Families CANNOT control the message.

Oh, DRAT THAT MAN!

Don't you know that the Lortons are just gnashing their teeth while boating on their 180' yacht?

Not as much fun when they cannot totally control the local political agenda, is it?

Golly, that must really GALL them....

Hint:  The fire at the World Publishing Co. was caused by spontaneous human combustion when the Lortons learned over the weekend that Mr. Medlock was taking over the Hosting duties at KFAQ Morning show...

Their Waking Nightmare continues.....Excedrine Headache #1.

So I wonder when they'll start.

Medlock's been on the radio for quite a while. And yet KFAQ isn't even the top 10 in the Tulsa radio market and hasn't been for a long time. Remember, Tulsa is a medium-sized market, and KFAQ hasn't seen a 4.0 rating in eons.

And Gwen's departure ain't going to help. And berating your co-host isn't going to win you a lot of friends in the business, either.

I suspect that Tulsa as a market is more interested in Pop and Country Music, and Sports, than Talk Radio.

If your rating is accurate, that may be the best they can expect, giving the listening interests of the local populace.

There are many local radio station choices.

I also anticipate that Talk Radio temporarily does better during election cycles, or when there is some major catastophe like 9-11, Hurricane Katrina, or the Space Shuttle accidents, so they might get a bit a lift in 2008 with a Presidential Election.

rwarn17588

I checked fall 2006, which was an election year. There was no appreciable change in the ratings for KFAQ. It still didn't crack the top 10 in that period.

Chris Medlock is the remaining co-host of the morning show on the 14th ranked station in town out of 19.  His main competitor has three times the listeners he does. And these rankings are with Gwen Freeman who was the "radio professional" of the two. You have to think that on his own and without her that his ratings are going to fall even further. Is dead last in Tulsa out of the question?

It is a "Waking Nightmare" but I'm thinking moreso to the people running that train wreck of a station.

KRMG is the number one rated station in Tulsa, and has been in the top two or three for decades.

No fair RM.
Using facts again!

I've noticed that Phil & Brent are getting a bit more edgy.  Reminds me of the Bob & Tom show now.

If you have never heard Bob & Tom you should, unless you're easily offended.
When attacked by a mob of clowns, always go for the juggler.

May be a slight case or crate of Apples and Oranges here.

KFAQ ranked as 14th is not the same as the ranking for the KFAQ Morning show.

Right?

Regardless of whether the KFAQ Morning Show is 14th or 4th, if that satisfies station management and ownership of the station, then the format and the host will stay.

If they want CHANGE, then they may better themselves, or they may be worse off with a change.

Gosh, I've fostered my own EPIPHANY!

If we elect MR. CHANGE: Barack Hussein Obama as President, could things CHANGE for the WORSE??

Hellllooooooooooo, Mr. and Mrs. America?

I know I'm going to get savaged for mentioning this, but the summary ratings that swake and RM have quoted are for the entire day, from 6 a.m. to midnight, and for listeners age 12 and up. They don't necessarily translate to the relative popularity of morning drive shows.

Stations sell time based on daypart ratings (e.g. 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.). Advertisers tend to be concerned about key demographics, particularly the 25-54 age range, which has the most disposable income.

It's mathematically possible that KFAQ is beating KRMG for the morning drive shift with adults 25-54, but, because KRMG's national talk shows -- particularly Limbaugh and Hannity -- are more popular and better established in Tulsa than KFAQ's national line-up, KRMG does better when you average out the entire day and all demographics. I haven't seen actual numbers, but it's my understanding that KRMG hasn't beaten KFAQ in morning drive for adults 25-54 since early in DelGiorno's tenure.

You may now commence to calling me names and accusing me of drinking the KKKFAQoolaid, etc.

tim huntzinger

Do you prefer the grape or the cherry?  Here is an easy fix: have one of the bigwigs over there disclose the arbitron ratings.  See, simple?
