Michael Bates over at www.batesline.com has done some useful analysis and commentary on the first public expenditures filings for the Tulsa City Council candidates.

You can find the details at:

http://www.batesline.com/archives/2008/02/city-council-contribution-report.html

There is an amazing amount of money flowing out of one zip code:  74114.  This area extends from Riverside Drive from 21st to 31st, and east to Sheridan.

These public spirited Mid-Towners (plus a few in Zip codes 74120, 74105 and 74136) are so very concerned about the future of the city (and the future of THEIR control of the City) that they are heavily financing the opponent of District 1 incumbent Jack Henderson, and opponent of District 3 incumbent Roscoe Turner.

They are also funding heavily Maria Barnes re-election, because since taking elective office, she has quicly learned to play nice with the ruling Power Elite.

Her campaign theme song is reportedly " Don't Rock the Boat, Baby".

Mr. G.T. Bynum's campaign funding to date is a very respectable $43K for the District 9 council seat being vacated by Cason Carter (or is it Carter Cason?).

According to Mr. Bates, again the money is flowing from the usual suspects of Mid-town Elitists.

Or well, Cason/Carter's soon moving out or up, depending on the breaks.

And, we note that Billionaire George Kaiser, Family, and Friends Dialing-for-Our-Dollars Plan are funding outspoken opponents of his failed Kaiser River Tax, specifically targeting Henderson and Turner.

No hard feelings, right?

RIGHT!

Henderon and Turner made a laughingstock of the River opposition imho. Saying "no river tax because you hired Ron Palmer" is lunacy. WTH did Albertson's have to do with it either?

Yes, you need a tenant for that location, but the Giants winning the superbowl aren't preventing you from getting a tenant.

If I had money I would give to Henderson's opponent. Henderson was good, but he's let the office get to him and it's time to move on. The whole "I put you in the building so I can get whatever office I want" incident shows that he is more self-involved than community involved at this point. I think that is why the councilor pay raises that he champions (and I support) aren't passing, it's because he comes across as nothing but a selfish do-nothing.

While I may not agree with Roscoe every time, I do enjoy the fact the chairman is very much a "devil's advocate."

Mayor Chatty Kathy Taylor was just doing the bidding of her betters, trying to knock Jack down a notch in anticipation of the upcoming city council election.

I'm sure she is at heart a shinking violet type of personality, reportedly living as she does in her humble one-room log cabin.

Didn't she personally chink the mud between the rough hewn logs, knowing mud-slinging as well as she does?

NO EGO there, for a person living in the 2nd biggest house in Tulsa.

Who lives in the biggest house in Tulsa?

Jack needed the peg drop. If it comes at the hands of KT, then so be it. The midtowners giving money doesn't concern me because I see it as just another sign of how people are getting more active in the political process and civic projects. Lafortune spent 4 years spending our money on their projects, so how about they spend some of theirs on us for awhile?

Even a cursory analysis of the contributions show that Out-of-District Mid-town Elitist contributors are trying to depose two non-establishment city councilors, Henderson and Turner, able city councilors in two of Tulsa poorest districts, #1 and #3.

And, trying to retain a floor mat city councilor Maria Barnes in District 4.

And, trying to inject their very own DNA back into the City Council with Mr. Bynum in the open seat in District #9.

Their silk kimono came really flying open for all to see when Bank of Oklahoma Executive Vice President Daniel Ellinor gave $1,000 to Mr. Henderson's opponent, Mr. Emmanuelle Lewis, because Billionaire Plutocrat George Kaiser's hatchetman and current Tulsa MetroChamberPot Chairman Stanley Lie-barger probably told him to.

And, another $1,000 promised after the next campaign expenditures filing period, too, AFTER the election?

Somebody better audit Mr. Ellinor's bank expense account closely the next few months.

What?  $1,000.00 for golf tees at Southern Hills Country Club?!?!?

Paid cash in the Pro Shop?

No receipt??

Approved; legitimate expense account expenditure.

The local power plutocrats need to knock off dissenters Jack Henderson and Roscoe Turner before they begin promoting the upcoming Kaiser River Tax II.  They've already retired Roop, Medlock and Mautino.

Unfortunately for them, Mr. Eagleton did not draw an opponent this election cycle.

But, there's always a short two years from now?  Maybe a Warren will run against Eagleton?

Nah, don't they much prefer to pull the local government strings from behind the curtain?

Or, just find another LaFortune to be their lackey, like the last three?

End run around Councilor at Large....?

sgrizzle... No offense but your words would carry a lot more credibility if you lived in District One.

The majority of the money for Mister Lewis comes from out of District contributions.
Saying that it is just about more Tulsans getting involved in the process is like the majority of the Presidential contributions for a candidate coming from another country via proxies.

To top all of this... Lewis has stated that " he is for a River Tax"

The vast majority of his District were opposed to the River Tax.

A representative carries out the will of his constituents...

Unlike George "Dubya"  that tells people what is good for them whether they like it or not.

I know several people that do live in district 1 and were upset he ran unopposed last round. I have never seen city our county district boundaries affect anyones judgment limits before. I never said he was horrible, I just said it's time for him to go. Even the pope gets switched out occasionally.

The people in District #1 aren't dummies.

They understand the distinct difference between authentic homeboy credentials vs. an Oreo.

They can see through an Uncle Tom like Emmanuelle Lewis, pimping for the local power Establishment.

Always, follow the money.

Actually, I'm surprised that the Kaisers are so stingy with their contributions, so far.

Probably waiting until the next filing period AFTER the election to reveal they've pumped in the full $5K for their favored floor-mat candidates.

Wonder what Bright-Boy RIGGED the State Campaign Expenditures reporting requirements so that we cannot see where the real heavy-duty campaign money is coming from until AFTER an election??

The local ruling Oligarcha Familias??

The Hidden Hand?

The Black Hand?

The Bad Hand?

Our very own La Cosa Nostra?

Well, if Jack Henderson had the job security of the Pope, he'd have the job for LIFE.

As the Vicar of Christ, you can't have better job security.

Vicar of District #1?

The Deacon of District #1 sounds more alliterative......

If Jack Henderson didn't whine about how he needs his paycheck tripled and about how teensy-weensy his new office is going to be, maybe he wouldn't have such strong challengers.

If this is considered a strong challenger the opponents have fallen asleep at the wheel.

On a side note: the race where they is really some concern would be the seat vacated by Cason....

Those people are going to have a very well groomed pro-developer trojan horse.

Based on the huge amount reported raised to date by Mr. Bynum, he appears to be the Benign growth being nurtured into a full Malignancy by the Mid-Town Elitists.

The local power oligarchy just really cannot stand any dissent, can they?

Even though they control a voting majority on the city council, and have since Sam "The Sham" Roop sold out to Mayor MisFortunate in 2004 for a $90K per year job, the local power oligarchy just cannot stand ANY dissenting opinion.

None.

They cannot stand anyone not in their total control being on the city council, on a local board, commission or authority.

WHY?

Because they might start asking questions.

Like the Gang of 4.5 Reformers started doing....

About TMUA policy toward subsidizing growth in Owasso and Bixby, cutting off Tulsa's "air supply" of sales taxes?

About re-appointing Cameron and Reynolds to the self same TMUA Board?

About Great Plains Airlines, and its cheerleader, the Lorton's World, as a hidden majority equity owner in GPA?

About an inflated TAIT taxiway expansion project to coincidentally repay a certain $8 million dollar + interest loan on behalf of GPA?

About a favored cabal of local road contractors who win all the local, penny-packet sized road bid lettings?

About no-bid bond underwriting deals with certain local banks?

About Why the new Arena had to be downtown?

About 50% cost overruns on the Arena under the management of two of the local Oligarchy family businesses?

About the County's intentionally obsuscated accounting for the Visions 2025 Sales Tax collections, disbursements, and bonded indebtedness debt service?

About why Storey Wrecker has held the city towing contract for decades?

And, is anyone surprised about why the dissenters had to be destroyed?

WELCOME to the Banana Republic of Tulsa, Kameraden.

I live in District 1 and I'm going to get a Henderson sign for my yard.  I see Henderson signs all over District 1.  I've seen about 10 McConnell signs and 1 Emanuel Lewis sign.

During the last mayoral election there were Taylor signs all over the place.  I bet there won't be next time.  I had one back then, but won't next time.

District 1 to Taylor.  You have failed us.

Go Henderson!

Jack is coming BACK!

Be C-A-R-E-F-U-L that your campaign yard sign stays at least 12' from the city street.

Otherwise, RecycleMichael will vacumn it up: To be turned into so-much mulch.

There's a mulch shortage, caused by global warming this past December hereabouts.
