What's the popular crossover vehicle these days?

you have pretty much listed them all above either by the ones you dont like and that you refuse to even take a look at.  I would suggest trying the new Buick Enclave.  Comes in fwd or awd.  DVD nav system, and dvd entertainment system available.  7 or 8 seat configuration.  Dual sunroofs, power heated mirros, 12 way front power heated seats.  Power lift gate.  They are super quiet on the highway and get decent gas mileage (currently averaging 19.5 in mine and I have a heavy foot.  They are super quiet on the highway and you will be doing 80-85 before you realize it.  If you are going to be that close minded about your choice of vehicle before even looking at them, you are limiting your options considerably.

i'm not close minded.  those brands were eliminated either because they are a dime a dozen, or their residual values are crap.  the buick won't be worth crap in a few years because GM piles incentives on them. we keep vehicles for 6+ years and we intend to get something for them when we sell/trade.


as for the edge, I like them and will probably test drive one, but they really need an SVT version or something with more style.  besides the Sync system, the interior sucks.

I drive with a lead foot so my gas mileage isnt that great I am sure. I am guessing I get about 20mpg. I would suppose that most new cars are pretty good anymore. I would just advise someone to get the kind of car they like. That best fits your personality, the kind of look, image and functionality that fits you and your lifestyle. I see those minis and some smaller cars and think they look great. But one thing I like about my Murano is that I can just fit 3 levels of scaffolding inside and it enabled me to get rid of the old Ford van I had. And yes I have gotten some comments from my clients when I pull up in that Murano and start pulling out scaffolding lol. "Wow! now thats unexpected![:O]" lol I have never figured out if they are more shocked that scaffolding will fit in my car or that I would use a 35thou dollar Murano to haul it around in? []

Any person that looks at a car as an investment really needs to take a long hard look at things again.  Cars depreciate faster then anything else in this world.  I understand you don't buy new cars very often, but to think of it as an investment is not very smart.  The only way you can "make money" off of it after 6yrs is to make sure it has low mileage and the thing is paid off.  I read an article a few months back in the USA today about the length of auto loans and how they have extended to 8yrs.  If you need a car loan for 8 yrs to pay it off, maybe you should reconsider and look at something else.

It's amazing how many people get belly up on a car because they want low monthly payments, small downpayment and great interest rate.  Anyways, good luck on your car search.  From what you have stated you have effectively eliminated every possible SUV/CUV on the market that is worth a damn!

so let me get this straight, you are paying cash for a vehicle and want opinions from the people on this board, yet when we give you our opinion, you find something "wrong and negative" with every single one mentioned.  "everyone has a lexus, the RX400 is outdated, I refuse to buy GM, etc etc etc".  Maybe you should splurge on something like a porsche cayenne? perhaps the turbo model? maybe a g55 from MB??  You are negative on damn near everything you post, and quite frankly one must ask how in the hell does your family put up with your negativity?  Are they depressed all the time? does your negative attitude rub off on them as well?  

Once again if you are going to base your new car buying decision solely on resale value after 6yrs, its a game you aren't going to win.  On another note, I drive the very vehicles you mentioned home daily.  If you are interested in any of them, let me know and maybe, just maybe I will let you test drive one of them sometime? what do you say??

understandable.  The exact reason why we didn't opt for the twin turbo 335I.  Gas mileage plus my blonde fiancee driving? only thing that can happen is bad!  

The MKX is nice, but once again just a redbadged Ford Edge, the gas mileage isn't anything to write home about either.
