your talent is well suited to the casino industry...

agreed.

Thanks, I really hope this leads to doing more casino or large commercial projects. Learned some things on this first big one so any next one will go that much smoother and better. Each different type of job, each year, I learn a little more. Hopefully I will still be painting in my 80s like Michaelangelo did (actually my goal is at least 150[;)]) . Another 30-40 years or so under my belt and I should be able to paint up quite a storm. [:D]

I think I have a "basic style" but what I am really looking forward to is expanding on that in 2 completely different directions. This casino project pushed me more towards learning how to do the bold, over the top, loud, end of things. But I also want to expand my abilities in the opposite direction towards being able to do very subtle, soft and refined artwork. The broader my range, the better. I will be able to offer more to more people. Which is great cause I dont really get into that "starving artist" stuff. [;)]

Course a lot of it has to do with what the client wants, how much money they are willing to spend "aka the amount of time" on a project, and in the instance of this casino project, how much time I am allowed.

Compare the colors, detail and such above with this...

I wanted to make this look exactly like what you would expect to see in a real French Chateau. Refined color palette, subtle old world background and detail, aged look. The faux marbling actually turned out very nice as well, but my photo sucks lol.

Looking at this... and then the casino murals, would you think the same artist did them both?

Here is basically an early version of...

this...  Though here too the client was able to spend more and enable me to achieve a more refined look. Plus I have improved over the years.

I like doing the bold colorful stuff, but also really enjoy doing more subtle and refined work.

This is almost too subtle lol, you can baaarely see the scrollwork in the center and corners. We also painted the trim around the top to match the real marble columns. Looking at it in real life you cant tell what marble is real or painted.  Also the "trim" on the walls is painted as well. Its all painted on a special Venetian Plaster faux, which you absolutely cannot make a mistake on. Accidently touch your brush or any paint any where it shouldn't be and your screwed lol. The paint instantly soaks right in and is absorbed. Your lines have to be perfect. Quite different indeed from that casino job.
