lawn care service

We just recently moved into our new house last month and I am interested in getting my lawn treated.  I am curious if anyone has any recommendations, any horror stories, companies to stay away from, etc.  

I am wanting a program that is 4-6 applications a year and something that I can pre pay up front.

We have used Forever Green Lawncare (Al Beal is the owner)for the past 2 years. It's 6 applications. It's $46 an application. You can pay at the beginning of the year and it's cheaper than that. I have liked it and how he provides information during each treatment on what the treatment is for.

do you have a phone # for them? I couldn't find them in the phonebook.  Closest I came up with was ever green lawn care, same company?

thanks.  I called and he said he would give me an estimate this afternoon.  He asked if anyone had referred me and I gave him your name, maybe he will give you a free application or something!!


So far I am impressed with Al.  I called him yesterday morning, and said he would give me an estimate that day.  When I got in from work there was some information attached to the front door.  He is very assertive.  He said my yard was around 4800 and would be 40 dollars for each application.  Very reasonable in my opinion.  I called tru-green, pinkstones, and green pro on Mon and they have yet to come out and give me any type of estimate.  I think I will be calling Al this afternoon and finalize everything.

That's great. Al is usually on top of things, so I am not surprised. It's amazing how many yards he treats and mows on a weekly basis.

You will like the results once he starts applying.

good deal.  He called me last night and said he would apply the first treatment either today or tomorrow.  He gave me  5% discount for prepaying the year upfront for a grand total of 228 dollars.  The next closest estimate was Pinkstons at 52 dollars an application for 5 applications.  My parents have used them previously and I didn't care for their work.

I mow once a week during the summer. That's the extent of my lawn care. Darwin takes care of the rest.

You haven't seen my lawn. Maybe I'll be surprised come summer, but I doubt I'll be that lucky.

I filled out Pinkston's form off their web site two weeks ago.  Called them yesterday told them something must be wrong with their web site, the lady said: "There's no problem, I've got your contact information right here."

If it takes two weeks (or longer) to get someone to come give me an estimate, I'm pretty concerned about how backed up they might get on applications. 

I really want to get rid of the remaining crab grass I've got as well as making sure I've got the correct type fescue out back.  It's coming up on pre-emergent and over-seeding time (yes I know not the same area at once) so I don't want to miss the window of opportunity.  I'd also like to simply have to worry about mowing and watering, not the chemical applications.

We use Emco for pest and lawn.  Responsive and always friendly.

My grass is the greenest of my close neighbors if that helps.

I used Lawn America for several years.  Last two years haven't been entirely impressed.

I'm in process of switching to Yard Varks.  They have done several jobs for us on the clean-up and install side.  Starting this month they are doing my over-seed and weed/fert.  Seem to be good guys.  Local owned.

My mother switched to Pinkston's this year from Lawn America and has been pretty happy.  I'm totally turned off by the more than two week turn around to handle my inquiry by Pinkston's though.  

Al from For-ever Green is coming by to give his pitch tomorrow.  I've got a couple others to talk to yet.
