Why I support Hillary Clinton

Hometown

I've been thinking these discussions comparing Clinton with her rival and it occurred to me that it would be productive to change the tone and talk about the positive reasons why I support my candidate.  I hope other people will join in and tell us their reasons for supporting their favorite candidate.  Maybe start a thread for each candidate's supporters.

Here's why I'm a Hillary Clinton supporter:

Hillary is part of a team that produced the best economy that I've experienced in my adult life.

By the time Bill Clinton came into office I had longed for the kind of rosy expanding economy my parents had enjoyed throughout the 50s and 60s.  It seemed like we had been in back-to-back recessions since the beginning of the 70s.  There may have been economic bright spots along the way but it had never really trickled down to working people.

By his second term, Clinton's economic discipline and economic policies had created the best economy of my adult life.  I enjoyed job hunting in a seller's market and made substantial gains in income during that time.  I also made a killing in the stock market.  And sold my first home at a very handsome profit.

Peace.  The Clinton team carefully steered us through a number of very precarious events while keeping the nation at Peace.

I like the fact that Hillary Clinton is a policy wonk.  I frequently hear people talk about how well versed she is on policy in general.  I believe we should be governed by the brightest and the best informed.

The Clintons gained and claimed the nation's middle ground and governed from the center.  Most people in this country tend to congregate around the center and finding the middle point between the extremes on the left and right – makes sense for me.

The Republicans hated a successful Democrat president and lord knows they lobbed everything they could dig up or invent onto the Clintons and their friends.  Remember when the Republicans had Susan McDougal literally in chains, hopping around in front of the cameras.  The Clintons shrugged off the distractions.  They stayed focused on the peoples' business and enjoyed favorable ratings until the end.

The Clintons are fighters and winners.  I had seen one Democrat leader after another crash and burn beginning with Jimmy Carter.  The "only" Democrats in my adult life with a winning strategy were the Clintons.

I believe Universal Health Care like Universal Social Security is the way to go.

Finally, I believe in rewarding a track record of good service with loyalty.

That's it in a nutshell.  I think Hillary offers us the best shot at peace and prosperity.

Now, please don't tell me what is wrong with Ms. Clinton.  Tell me what is right about your candidate.

OK. You convinced me. I will support Hillary Clinton for President. Anybody else?

Well stated, Hometown.
Power is nothing till you use it.

I support Ralph Nader because he is the only guy that can get enough left wingnuts to vote for him and cause Obama to lose.

Gaspar

I think I'm going to vote for this guy:

He seems to be slightly more sane than Nader, slightly less Fascist than Clinton, and slightly less expensive than Obama.
When attacked by a mob of clowns, always go for the juggler.

FOTD

Clinton's timing on the economy could not have been better. Plus Greenspan was already creating bubbles.

Peace? What hell Hillary helped create by not facing down the Busheviks?

How can you be for a woman (team) that betrayed us by teaming up with the right wing conspiracy
to bash Obama and praise McCain't?

I don't believe you.

RecycleMichael

Come on FOTD. You bash Hillary on every other thread. He asked politely to try and be positive about your candidate. Are you capable?
Power is nothing till you use it.

FOTD

Not no. Hell no.

Ok....she is doing us a favor by airing all the filth she can, throwing the kitchen sink, and whacking knee caps. When the Repugs try it in the general election it will be a big "we've heard this bs already"....So, in a way I am happy she is tooling around.

I'm highly disappointed my candidate did not make it further in the GOP race:

Behind you 100% on that.  The debate would have been wonderful!

I went to his website and was pleased to learn that he is for toothbrushes and against Zombie Attack.  I don't think Hillary has even taken a stance on Zombie Attack.

Obama only took a stance against Zombie Attack after he was attacked!

Unfortunately his Zombie rehabilitation program will cost the tax payers billions and probably won't pass.

We need a candidate with a pet comment of:

"Sometimes ...I wear a fake donkey."

Hey!  Don't make him look like a one dimensional candidate.  He has a lot of good ideas.

Vermin's positions:
To make crime against the law! combat illiterates! Fight the unemployed! And stop pregnant teenagers! These statistics can easily be lowered by manipulating the figures upon which they are based.

Oh wait. . . that sounds like every other candidate.  Crap! another loser!

After seeing the other "I support" threads I decided to delete this post.  It just talked about why I disagreed with HT reasoning, but could be taken as the bashing he was trying to avoid.  I'll PM him the message for his amusement.

Okay you Obama and McCain supporters, either it is taking you some time collect your thoughts or you are incapable of making a positive argument for your candidates.

Talk about a bunch of negative campaigners.

Chicken Little

Paul Krugman has an interesting observation about each candidate and the mismatched public perceptions:

quote:
Mr. McCain, we're told, is a straight-talking maverick. But on domestic policy, he offers neither straight talk nor originality; instead, he panders shamelessly to right-wing ideologues.

Mrs. Clinton, we're assured by sources right and left, tortures puppies and eats babies. But her policy proposals continue to be surprisingly bold and progressive.

Finally, Mr. Obama is widely portrayed, not least by himself, as a transformational figure who will usher in a new era. But his actual policy proposals, though liberal, tend to be cautious and relatively orthodox.

He's moderate, he's retaining middle-class tax cuts and I know that that will make health care reform harder, but IMO his economic proposals seem much more in line with Bill's, oddly enough.

As for the War in Iraq, Clinton seems to think we can leave and stabalize the country.  I don't think the surge has changed much of anything, as one pundit put's it, "I think they were just reloading."

Again, I think Obama's position is much more pragmatic. the military strain is very real and the problems in Afghanistan, where we never finished the fight, are growing.  Leaving Iraq is in the best interest of our country.  Both Clinton and Obama have said that they plan to grow the size of our ground forces, so they both get points there.

And I really like how he handled the Wright issue.  He didn't duck.  He didn't turn on Wright.  He said what most of us know to be true, i.e., that people, even people you love, sometimes say stupid things.  Race is not going to become the central issue of this campaign.  For one thing, it's not foremost on the minds of most Americans, like the economy and the war.

And finally, of course, how can anyone not like his rhetorical style?  Not for the way the it makes him look, but for the way that it makes you feel:  proud, hopeful, patriotic, and rarin'-to-go.

He's got a lot going for him.  I actually like Clinton, too, but Obama edges her out, IMO.
