Its my understanding that the press release has been picked up so keep your eyes open for more info!

Do we have to walk there? If we drive and it is anything like last year where parking (and idling) was difficult then you can calculate impact very easily.
To calculate the CO2 emissions from a gallon of fuel, the carbon emissions are multiplied by the ratio of the molecular weight of CO2 (m.w. 44) to the molecular weight of carbon (m.w.12): 44/12.
CO2 emissions from a gallon of gasoline = 2,421 grams x 0.99 x (44/12) = 8,788 grams = 8.8 kg/gallon = 19.4 pounds/gallon
So if you have around 2,000 vehicles (not sure what the actual attendance is, plug in your own numbers) and each vehicle uses 1/2 gallon of fuel both ways (calculated at 15-20 mpg). So with those numbers you are spewing 38,800 pounds of CO2 for the concert.
Will beer or food be served?
Now for the diesel:
CO2 emissions from a gallon of diesel = 2,778 grams x 0.99 x (44/12) = 10,084 grams = 10.1 kg/gallon = 22.2 pounds/gallon
If food will be served, most is delivered on diesel trucks. If we calculate one truck for Pepsi, one for Swan food service, one for Beer (keg and/or bottle & Can) and only figure in a single delivery (very conservative). Calculating a 6 gallons of fuel per trip we can add an additional (modest) 396 lbs. of CO2. Trash pickup from the show would be an additional 132 lbs of CO2 (if you only calculate a single truck). . . and if you recycle the cans and bottles you have to add another vehicle. Because the recycling trucks are lighter we will figure 2 gallons of fuel so recycling would add another 44.4 lbs of CO2. Sorting shipping and smelting would probably add a few extra pounds to that figure too.
Total impact is about 39,240 lbs of CO2.
Or the impact of 10 average families of 4 for a whole year.
I guess my point is that the language used is very important and to claim NO IMPACT is incorrect. Use LOW IMPACT. Unless of course people will be expected to walk and no food/beer will be served and no trash generated.
But I will be there! I love Reggae Fest!
I think the name change was a bad branding decision, but that's just the opinion of an old marketing guy! You will be very hard-pressed to get people to refer to it as anything but Reggae Fest. That's what we grew up with.
