At least the contrast is better, but I'm still not a huge fan of the colors.
The light blue is good for decoration, but as text against a white background the readability is poor.
Is this a bug?
When I click on the "Show unread posts since last visit" the link takes me to the front page at http://www.tulsanow.org/

You might clear your internet cache; it's not doing that to me...
I still have a major issue with the colors.
The page needs to be centered. I honestly like the old version better.
Just like any change, my brain will adjust and I won't think anything of it after a while.

It actually is centered; it's now taking up more horizontal space on the page though. I like this better (not so much the colors, but the layout. Maximize real estate).
And for my positive comment,,,, I do like the wider format.

I don't think the palette is too horribly awful, but I think that everything should be toned down a bit. It's just too busy. At least darken the bright blue links, they are nearly impossible to read. Please don't take this as being rude, I'm just trying to voice my opinion. Eventually, I will get used to the change, and I may actually like it. Just maybe a less bright version of it. :D
Analogous color scheme fail. Too saturated. This hurts me.
I'll get used to most of it. I like the wider format. The colors in the recent posts section post number line make the thread title unreadable.
Edit: had to check before commenting on clicking the logo.
I liked being able to click on the logo to get back to the forum home page after making a post. Now it takes me somewhere else, I think the home page of the whole website.
I agree with whoever said it's too busy regarding colors.
Can you put the logout in a box? I sometimes forget to logout as it is. An additional logout box at the bottom of the page would be nice.
Since your still using SMF 1.1.x your footer violates the copyright agreement of the forum software. The copyright notice must be legible. I would get rid of the blue bar down there and move the footer into the green. Now if you upgrade to 2.0 you don't even have to leave the copyright notice or can reformat it in any way you like.
Speaking of footer. your heading are not using the images on the forum like they are on the main page.
The color scheme reminds me a morning news program. I keep waiting for the voice over to proclaim "Wake Up Tulsa!"
I don't post often, but when I do, its to complain about changes.

That is on the to-fix list. Having trouble finding it in the stylesheet.

I'm not really sure why that is. This site is two different stylesheets with different people working on each one, not to mention dozens of PHP files so that may have just been an oversight. I'll see if I can move the WP footer to SMF.

The idea was to integrate the whole thing into one site. Clicking "forum" will take you back to the top of the forum, or you can turn on "Return to topics after posting by default." on this page: http://www.tulsanow.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1;sa=theme

I already had that activated. After I get done with a topic that I posted to and want to return to the forum home page is what I was referring to. Going to the forum home page after posting is something that I believe needs to be a bit more prominent than one of eight words that don't even look like a button. Just my opinion.

Still not a big fan of the light blue. I understand it's a primary color in the logo, but I don't like it.
How about one of these?...
Toned the yellow down, darkened and desaturated the blue, and shifted the green to a warmer green, also the message background is more golden vrs pink.
Shifted the yellow to a green tone and lightened the blue and the green from above a little. the message background is a "soft parchment green" .

Now we are making some progress. The top one is a big improvement.
Can't shift the logo colors. The rest is negotiable. I think the yellow i changed it to looks like the yellow in the top example.
I will continue to tweak with the others though.

Thank you. I'll try it now.
I like the new main body wording color. It could be just a taaad lighter. I know its close to what I suggested, but in looking at it, its tricky because if you see a color at the bottom of the page/computer screen its lighter than at the top and when the color then goes all the way from top to bottom, it appears darker. But if its a hassle, its fine, this new color is quite soothing imo. Its the stuff in quotes color that seems harsh. Oh, and the blue lettering is perfectly fine now imo.
Colors evoke an emotional response. Back when I used to work for IdeaStudio we spent a great deal of time analyzing color choice for our clients in their marketing materials and ads. It was expensive but worth it. After developing an initial set of color combinations. We typically employed the use of a focus group.
The great thing about the TulsaNow forum is that it IS a focus group. None of us really has any problem offering up our opinions.
THIS COLOR SCHEME IS BRIGHT AND ANNOYING.
I am a member of several SMF forums and administrate two for my company (so I know what a pain in the a$$ it is to develop a new template).
I tried to get over it today, but it's not working.
The colors are bright, they do not work with each other, and they are not complementary, analogous , or triadic. They are just far enough off to cause discomfort.
Sorry
We switched coffee at the office about the same time this site changed it colors. I'm not sure what is causing it but I'm finding myself a little more aggressive than normal. I'm blaming it on the forum, because the coffee tastes much better than the old.
It's really flipping awful.

Three more and you can start your own topic. Asparagus is fine, but you will see that many use Heiron to address - going for the obvious connection to a drug induced state one might achieve from the use of Heroin...trying to make an associative connection of such to an assumed state of mind that they feel can be inferred from some of my posts. Example; when I make a comment about Karl Rove to the effect that he is a slimeball scumbag who would gag a maggot off a gut wagon...some feel that is possibly excessively harsh, and that I would HAVE to be under influence of an opiate to even think such things, let alone voice them.

A little self-deprecation here...I wore my hair similar to Joe Dirt in the mid to late eighties and early nineties. I had less of the bi-level though (my hair was longer on the sides) so it didn't look like a gnarly beaver-paddle.

hey another serious question about this site:
If any of you are familiar with vbulletin, is there any way on here to "see subscribed threads"? i.e. before I go a browzing, I like to see activity in only threads I've posted in. Is there an easy way to do that? Currently I am "see posts" in my profile, but then I got to poke down that list, looking for individual threads, and then click each one just to see if there's been any new posts.

VBulletin is also a paid 'subscriber' system, which costs out the nose every year for webmasters/owners to pay for. I don't think SMF does that.

well most of that has nothing to do with my question.
I am looking for a way to do something here, and I figured the easiest way to explain would be to put it in parallel terms, but since that failed, let me ask a simpler question for you:
How do you browse this forum everyday? Do you have a process, or you just login and start clicking smile?
Do any of you use the "notification" options? If so, how does that work? I don't want a damn email every time someone posts something anywhere on the board, but I would like an easy way to take care of my involved business before I go plundering around out of boredom.
Basically, I like to be efficient and get smile done. I don't have a smile ton of time for bucking around.

Actually, it has everything to do with your question. You asked. I said VBulletin is a cash cow and SMF which this forum uses can't do that.

I do, on Android. It works pretty well, but since this site appears to be a Windows based server (it used to be anyway), I notice that it sometimes hangs a bit. But paying for it opens you up to all the other forums that are using it now. It was worth the 3 bucks I paid for it.

Never said I remembered the movie..said I saw it more times than would like to admit to. I've seen dozens of movies that way (while with friends drinking, etc). It's kinda like watching Napoleon Dynamite, or a train wreck. Joe Dirt was that way.
BTW, I was a decent drummer back in the day, and know many local musicians and bands. Used to work with and are friends with several good guitar players, drummers and the like. So I'm most definitely a rocker to the nth degree. I drove to Houston to see KISS after they put their makeup back on in 1996. Saw White Zombie around that same timeframe. Ozzy at the CC. Saw Ratt at the Cains. You get the picture. My last concert was my first at the BOK..Foo Fighters last May.
As for tapatalk, f you do a factory reset, as long as you tie your main android account to the same Gmail address, it does remember what apps you paid for. So you're good there.

Jesus Christ....I've heard Justin Beiber more than I care to admit to. And I have never heard the entirety of a single song.
If I pretended to understand a justin beiber reference, and someone came back to me with "obviously you've never heard the song", the last thing I would reply with is "Oh, I've heard more Justin Beiber than I care to admit to."

Those who want to pull their hair out will get a BlackBerry.

look, I'm not a fanboi for anyone, but I think this will explain some...
The common conception that Andriod is for tinkereres and iPhone is for idiots...I mean, it kind of holds some water, however I think it comes down to more along the lines of this:
I had an app on my android 2 years ago that Siri was based on....kind of ironic the iEverything tagline "there's an app for that"...but I had "siri" app 2 years ago on android...but it is the new hot smile now like Apple invented it.
There are many examples, but so many of them can be retrolinked to this basic premise:

When PC were early in their popularity, I thought why should I buy software when I could write a quick program myself. As commercial software became more and more useful, I changed my mind. Just like most EEs don't design an OP Amp rather than use an available chip, I don't choose to tinker if something is readily available that meets my needs.

look, Jobs was VERY clear on this...he would NOT give the consumer what they wanted, but instead he would TELL the consumer what they NEEDED.
...and so now I end up having to deal with national companies that WANT my services, but are kind of put off that I can't just click on MSoutlook and see my semi-retired CEO's minute-by-minute schedule (ironic)......then on the conference call (that did not have to be rescheduled) with their sales TECHNICAL support, who is not familiar with
FTP.....
I see this all the time. I had to suffer through a debate between a THS worker and some jackass from Sanfrancisco, and how they would denegrate their respective (PC based) IT Departments...."why can't I get my Exchange emails on my iPad?"
and how it's 2012 alreadty and EVERYONE has an iPad, and you should get on that smile, what kind of operation are you running?....
forgetting that iWhetever holds less that 50% of the phone market, and disregarding that iWhatever only holds 5% of anything else corporately.
but by god my bucking iPad better integrate.............

Remember, the Golden Gate bridge, submarines, skyscrapers, automobiles and dominating world economies of the 20th century were all built with slide rules, pencils and a population with less than 50% telephone availability and only 15% college grads. We did this before macs, pcs and iphones.

A lot of that stuff was built with safety factors to allow for slide rules and pencils. Remember the Lockheed Electra? Remember 10 mpg cars and the fatality rates for many of those classics? Galloping Gertie bridge? The fact that there have actually been relatively few disasters (in spite of the TV shows "Engineering Disasters", many of which were management induced) speaks well for my profession.
There are some really valuable tools but a lot of the stuff out there is there because it can be.
I have to go do some lawn work. I need to burn some calories and working in the yard is more fun than going to a gym.

Those are exceptions but even so, as you point out they factored in error margins. And often they engineered for the existing parameters which is why my home had no insulation in its walls (natural gas was cheap and plentiful in this area) and why an economy car like the 66 Chevy Nova still got no better than 16mpg with an anemic 6cylinder (gasoline was about 15 cents a gallon).
I love the valuable tools but it seems most are designed to eliminate labor and to increase speed, not improve quality. We still have catastrophes because we keep using humans to direct the computers. Silly species.

Let me finish that last sentence properly - "speaks well for my profession, in spite of everything management tries to do to trip that profession up."

Why did you restart the phone? Not needed with Android. If you purchased it, you can download it again as long as it says 'purchased' in the Market/Google Play.

Remember the DeHavilland Comet? One important note on this was that the problems were a result of not understanding metal fatigue at key points in the fuselage mainly around the windows. But it was an absolute marvel in it's time.

The relatively sharp corner radii were a factor in the fatigue. That's why airliners all have well rounded (large radii) window corners now. Yep, except for the crashes, the Comet was a big step forward in transportation.

Yeah...falling out of the sky is always a detriment to air travel.
It was such a good looking plane, though. Always liked the engine shape. Not sure it can be called a nacelle since it is so closely tied to the wing, but beautiful!

I didn't restart the phone, it restarted itself. I hit the "purchase" button and then the phone restarted. i.e. something went wrong, badly wrong. If I get billed for it, then very badly wrong.
Maybe I'll give it another try though.

I didn't purchase it. It's not on my phone... just saying, there seemed to be a fatal error.
That being the case, IF I got billed for it, but I personally have no record of install, then no, although I'm sure tMo will be happy to reversed the charge.
But I doubt the purchase went through. anyway, maybe I'll try again.

If you have the option to have the purchase billed to your credit card/debit card, that's how I do mine. I don't trust the carrier for billing on the regular billing half the time. Let alone app purchases.

I'm not mad, or angry either. It's your liver. I used to brag about getting drunk a l-o-n-g time ago in college and the Navy. It's not so cool anymore as I've seen too many friends and relatives turn into alcoholics. I also don't care for a headache the next day. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy a few beers in quantities above what the militant non-drinkers label as casual social drinking.

You see?
in your 20's = grumble about smile that the interenet tells you you should grumble about
in your 30's = tell dudes in their 40's what they are doing wrong
in your 40's = do smile that tells those in their 20's what they think they should be bitching about
in your 50's = make sure that you are making profits on steps 1-3, and if not, then make sure you made a golden parachute.
in your 60's = be on a boat, or relegate yourself to your place in life
in your 70's = die. if not, then repeat the last step.

I'm not exactly a youngster. I used to smoke a pipe (tobacco) and cigars but quit. I wasn't enjoying it anymore and too many family and friends were dying due to smoking related health issues. When I was a teenager, the Ouija Board said I was going to live to 105 yrs old. I don't want the last decades to be in a nursing home. I am not a fitness nut but do try to avoid truly detrimental activities. I'm glad you found some booze that doesn't give you a headache. You are either lucky or lying about how drunk you get.

I don't think his ego will let him say one way ot the other.
In Oklahoma the prevailing attitudes when you mention alchohol are "get drunk" or "it's evil and bad for you". It's those attitudes about alchohol that causes so many problems here in Oklahoma and keeps our absurd liquor laws in place.
Rather than have a prevailing attitude that...
lWhile the brain is young and still developing, Kids shouldn't drink it, for it can alter that important process. But when your older, and like most other things, in moderation and with good habits, alchohol is no big deal. Couple servings a day, with meal and or friends, it can be part of a healthy diet and lifestyle. And, just like with sex, food, video games, prescription drugs, "thrill seeking" etc. we must keep an eye out for our friends when excesses/problems and addictions arise and have systems in place to help them when those exceptions occur. But again, for most, in moderation (2-3 servings max, over the course of a day) and with good habits, alchohol can be part of a healthy diet and lifestyle.
Having the attitude that drinking is bad and evil, actually creates a situation where healthy attitudes, lifestyles, and responses to alchohol are NOT learned and taught, and thus irony of ironies, leads to... "bad and evil" related attitudes, lifestyles and responses to alchohol.
Mention having a drink here and your likely to get "it's bad" or "Yea! let's get drunk!" I get tired of that frankly. Course here in this state, we can't even create good eating habits and lifestyle choices and kill ourselves off at a higher rate because of it than just about any other state, and most countries for that matter. We have more heart disease, more blindness from diabetes and limbs being damaged or even CUT OFF from diabetes than just about any place else just as one example.
So when your on here bragging about "getting drunk". Know your part of the problem in this state. Your part of the culture that, instead of inculcating good attitudes, habits and lifestlye choices, is instead doing just the opposite. It's not good for you, and it's not good for people around you including young adults and children hearing it. And you know what, it's part and parcel of the very thing a lot of people on here complain about, our absurd and out-dated liquor laws. Perhaps you deserve what you get in that respect. You have now "drunk and seen the spider". Perhaps, once more people begin to become part of a reasonable, responsible, culture, then reasonable laws will prevail.
I have drunk alchohol most of my adult life. But have never been "drunk" once. Just like when I was a young person and was told, "If you have eaten till your full, you have eaten too much." I was also told, "If you drink till your drunk, you have had too much." I remember when I was in Paris and mentioned having a drink and a quick snack or something to eat. The response was completely the opposite of what you get a lot of here. There, not even a bat of an eye and you would perhaps have one or two drinks with a small snack at a cafe or apartment. Here, DRINK! yea! I will get a bottle of Vodka, you get some mixers and we will go out afterwards and DRINK MORE! Drink= drinking so much you get drunk, thats the goal, that's what alchohol is. I am like pancakes! lol, why can't people here be normal lol. It's just sickening here and its sad. Not everyone is that way here mind you, but a LOT more than there should be.
A) I ain't bragging about anything...I'm not trying to win any contest or anything either, I just happen be able to consume a significant quantity.
What I don't care for is a bunch of preaching about how I utilize my time, from people who do not know me.
and 2) yes it is that Tito's vodka - if you haven't tried it, you should. And like I said, no headache.
Quote from: dbacks fan on March 23, 2012, 02:40:05 PM
No bragging huh?
Kind of took that out of context didn't you.
Guy said he didn't have a screw up when he did something simple, and I intimated that if he were as drunk as I was, he might.
I call it self-deprecation. You can spin it as bragging if you want, but the bottom line is, it turned out to be the truth.
It has been awhile since I have been on here. I kind of like the new look and colors. Still getting used to it.
