HE mentioned that he liked Japanese food so we ate at Fuji after going to Philbrook.  This Saturday I am thinking of taking him to see Cirque-works  The Birdhouse Factory, at the Brady, after dinner at Lolas. If I get lucky enough for a third date we may try Table 10. [:)]

yes thanks, we all wanted to know that.  the previous poster's comment about "But it doesn't face a waterfall with unicorns making love to Care Bears"  applies here.

they like Japanese so you took them to Fuji.  might as well have taken them to mcdonalds.  At least do some GOOD Japanese...like Memories of Japan.  you dont have to the the person it isnt in Tulsa.

TheArtist

Fuji wasn't that bad actually.  I couldn't decide where to go, then saw the sign saying it was Japanese, so thought, hey why not try a restaurant I hadn't been to before. And no, I can't afford to pop over to Toronto to that restaurant lol.  As for unicorns and care bares, I have noooooo idea what you are talking about. However, we did have a great view of a Sonic, which definitely heads in that direction of class.

Best Food I had all weekend in Louisiana came from this Boiled Sea Food joint along the highway in a small town called Plaquemine, LA it is on the West side of the Mississippi before the Bridge to Baton Rogue.

CRAWFISH X-PRESS #1  Was the overall winner for the best food of the four day road trip.

Heat to boild the Sea Food came from the Propane Tank out back.

Tried the Bistros on a small street in downtown Donaldsonville area near the racetrack.  They were okay, but still none of them had the Giant Fan Tail Shrimp like Penningtons had back in the 1950's on Brookside in Tulsa.

Actually Pop Eyes Butterfly Fried Shrimp for $4.99 was pretty darn good there.  Needed a Fresh Real Lemon and better Tarter and Cocktail sauce. But the Shrimp was the exact same as the $10.99 at the Cypress Cafe on Railroad Street.
Must come from the same supplier there.

I ate gulf shrimp at a little shack south of Corpus Christi that sounds similar. The ambience was seaweed and driftwood but the shrimp was fantastic.

Some of the shrimp were the size of children, or a small woman.

Best fried shrimp I've had in Tulsa (and it's near the top of my list for anywhere) is Bros. Houligans on 15th St.  Huge portion and the breading is more like a chicken fried steak breading.

I recall that the Green Onion on 51st Street also has some pretty good Fried Shrimp.

Have not tried Bros Hulligan's version but I have tried their Chicken Fried Steak with Green Beans and a few other items there.

Will have to take your advice and go try it out today for lunch if I can find a parking space within walking distance. LOL

Tried the old haunt St Michales Alley a while back, it was nothing to how I remembered it as a teenager when the tall black chef made those giant  burgers that came with a large bowl of potato chips.  Strawberry Orange Sling was my fav drink there.  When I went back the atmosphere was different, no Kingston Trio playing on the Juke Box and no Potato Chips.

Have you ever been to Pesto Cafe?  It's less than a mile north of Dickson St. on College Ave.  I've never been to Bordino's, but most people find it to be very under-whelming as you say.  Places like Bordino's are usually frequented by Gen. X-ers that live in Bentonville and Rogers.  The college and just-out-of-college Fayetteville crowd would choose Pesto Cafe every time.

But back to Tulsa...
Is Monte's Chop House still in business?
What about Fountains?  I haven't been there in over ten years.  Is it still a nice place?
Did Atlantic Sea Grill go out of business?

Fountains was closed down by the Health Department over a year ago.  It was well past its prime.  Monte's recently went out of business and closed I believe.  The Atlantic Sea Grill closed earlier this year because of fire damage.  I believe they intend to repair and reopen sometime, just when I don't know.

I tried St. Michael's Alley for the first time a few months ago and absolutely loved it.  It reminded me of a place in Frankfurt, Germany that I went to called Zum Gemalten Haus.  The food was excellent, the staff was friendly and there was  live music.

I would love to see more restaurants in Tulsa with a nice atmosphere and charm like that (or are they already there and I just don't know them yet?).

TheArtist

Thats one of my favorite things to do, is eat at a place that has live music.  It just seems hard to know when and where music will be played.  I went to Lolas this saturday as planned, wished the music would have started earlier in the evening during dinner, and not so late. BTW the Cirque show was great, very enjoyable, some really amazing stuff.  But the Bradey was barely 1/5 full.  Several people around me commented on how bad the crowd was.  I felt sorry for the performers who were doing all this incredible stuff and hard work to a small pattering of applause. Did not put Tulsa in the best light.  However,t hey got the best and loudest standing ovation that the little crowd could muster in the end, I think the audience realized that this troop deserved a larger crowd.  People complain about not having anything to do or go see.  If you want shows and acts to come to this town ya have to support the ones that do.

as a late gen x early geny I don't think of food as a generational thing, I think of food as either tasty or not.  Il Patio, for its short time of existence, was the best Italian in the region.  It put a lot of places to shame.  The best Italian over there now is all tthe way in Tontitown.  Pesto Cafe is for people that cant afford good Italian.

Bros. Houligans? Is that the place between the BA Expwy and Lewis? I remember when that place was a bar called KL Snoozers. Honestly haven't been there since the early 90's, but also haven't been back to Tulsa since late '04.

Jamils was and always will be my favorite for steaks, never left with out a doggie bag. Too bad about The Fountains, it was really good in it's time.

There was another steak house on the south side of I44 near the turnpike gate, used to be a bad guy after hours place in the 50's and 60's. Can't remember the name of it though.
