Let's see which of the nattering naybobs of negativity manages to totally disparage this good news:

Personal income is up yet again.  Let's see will it be the disparity between the rich and poor, growth is slower, by .2 percent from last quarter, that we are still only 28th in growth, we are down from 15th last quarter, or that we continue to prosper while the rest of the nation suffers?

I don't care how you slice it, this is good news.  Income is up by $8.1 bln since first quarter last year.

Good news indeed.   (But you got a little carried away with yourself with that line about continuing to prosper while rest of the nation suffers.  Isn't it a little difficult to make a case for that statement when Oklahoma's growth was the 28th best among the 50 states?  Based on this report, it would be more accurate to say that Oklahoma continues to prosper along with most of the rest of the country.)

I would rather be in the top half of the states than the bottom half though.  I am sick and tired of being in the bottom half, or worse, the lower bottom of the bottom half for things. We are increasing, but most states are increasing at a better rate. Plus the fact that a lot of our increase is the result of oil related income makes this even more worrisome.

income is up because more citizens are filling the jobs previously taken by illegals.

HB1804 works.

I make a seven figure income each year.

Unfortunately, there is a decimal point involved.

No that wasn't my position, that was guessing what the usual thread-crappers would say. [;)]

Normally I'm a glass half full kind of guy, but is 28th (out of 50) anything to brag about?

The energy and aerospace boom have nothing to do with it?

We were 15th last quarter.  Growth is growth.  Overall, our personal income is up over $8 billion over last year.  Who cares what rank that puts us at?  It's a sign of more prosperity and more tax revenue into state coffers.

15th aint bad, would rather it be better, but its not terribly bad.  Who cares what the rank is?  Well, we should. Its a show of the comparative rank. If another state is prospering more and they continue to do so for any decent amount of time, the difference can add up. The disparity between the wealth and incomes of the states will increase. If your a person looking for a good place to live and work, or a business looking for a place to move to, I would be looking at the areas that are prospering the most. Not in the bottom half out of 50. If we are competing with other states and more than half are doing better...

Frankly I am baffled that with the way the oil economy is helping us and how the housing market is hurting so many other places, that we arent consistantly in the top 10 or 15? This should be our time to shine. Why are we not doing as well as so many other states? Take oil out of the picture and it makes the rest of Oklahoma look even more lackluster in comparison as to how other states are doing.

I dont want to be a Negative Nelly. But I dont at all think this is something to jump for joy about and continue doing business as usual. To me its a wake up call, a warning that we need to do something to improve things. We should be doing much better than bottom half. Whats holding us back? What are the top 10 states doing better?

What is more important? The state where you live or the place where you live? If you want to live in a place at the top, well, you do. Tulsa is in the top 20% of metro areas for average income and has to be in the bottom 20% in cost of living. congratulations, you just hit the lottery. Now stop feeling sorry for yourself.

Oklahoma's numbers are brought down by it's large rural population. 1/3 of our population is rural and very often rural equals poor, and not just in Oklahoma. States with a lesser percentage of rural people have an easier time on these rankings.

I was in no way feeling sorry for myself lol. The feeling was more, "lets motivate ourselves even more to keep improving". What are we doing wrong if anything, and what can we be doing better? Information is opportunity. Sorry if I get a tad bit competitive, its just my nature. [:D]   Top 20%? psh, we can do better.

Good point.  Do you have a source for that top 20% claim?

Edit:  never mind.  I found it.
