His memorial day address about his Uncle liberating Auschwitz.

Yeah. . . The Soviet army liberated Auschwitz, and your uncle was too young to be serving in the Soviet army at that time.

Makes it even harder to believe that said uncle went up into the attic for 6 months.

Oh! look he issued a correction:  It was his great uncle, and the camp was a small work camp facility called Ohrdruf.

He should have just said:  Pander pander pander pander pander PANDER pan pan pander!

The good news is now he's vowed NOT to talk to Ahmadinejad, nor Hugo Chavez.

Just making it up as he goes!  Sweet!

Ohrdruf was a subcamp of Buchenwald, one of the largest concentration camps during WWII.  If you have the stomach for it, here is some historic film footage of what the soldiers found when they liberated Ohrdruf:

Were it me, I would have stayed in an attic for a very, very long time.

Yes, he should have great uncle, not uncle, and should have said Buchenwald, not Aushwitz.  Does it really make that much difference?  At least he isn't cozying up to a minister who thinks the Jews brought the Holocaust on themselves.

I think he just misspoke.

You say pander like it is a bad thing.

In all fairness, he did say that it was a story told by his family.  It's not like he said he personally landed there, under sniper fire.  I think where he really messed this whole thing up is by changing things. I could understand him clarifying it was his great uncle (I never bother adding in the great part when refering to mine), and admitting the details may have been off (like where it took place).  As I said, he was supposedly repeating a story told by the family, which doesn't always have complete accuracy.  But when he started changing the details to make the story "true" is where, IMO, he made is real mistake.

My great uncle was not that great either...but most people would probably call him adequate.

I had a great-uncle who was just "fair to middlin'."

He has since come out and said he was wrong.

and if you fail to see the difference between one word wrong in a story and every word being an outright fabrication, then I have to question your powers of observation. Misspoke by have one word wrong and misspeaking by having every detail exaggerated in your favor are two different things.  Ones another lie, ones an admission of being wrong.

Clinton would have claimed SHE was there liberating the death camps while dodging sniper fire, and after she liberated the Jews they couldn't have a party for her because of all the danger.

I was trying to be nice to Obama, but you obviously wanted to take a story about a Obama mistake and twist it to attack Hillary. How unique.

Obama tried to make up a story that veterans could relate to. He purposely changed the people and the place in order to be accepted by veterans. It was a major speech on Memorial day carried by many networks. When his mistakes were pointed out, he then blamed his relatives for telling him the wrong information.

Hillary just added some spice to a speech given to supporters to kick it up a notch.

Thanks for reminding me of the difference.

Oh! Come on!  They're both just making crap up!  It's fun to watch, so just enjoy!

I guess I can't argue with you RM, I am not really that up to speed on the Obama thing and was just going off of what I heard.  If I was mistaken, it's my fault for being lazy and not looking it up for myself.
