Hey Gang, I'm divorced and have been filing my taxes as "single". Anyhow a few weeks ago I got my Stimulus Check from the IRS and it was $600.00. I thought single people got $300.00? Did something change or am I missing something here. I was reading a form about the Tax Stimulus that I picked up at a local library and it said $300.00 for single and $600.00 for married people plus $300.00 per child. I hope I'm not going to have to pay something back to the IRS... I'd hope the IRS would know what it is doing- Anyone know something on this, thanx~

OK thanks, then I got it right. The form I looked at must of been outdated and changed by congress. I was wondering if they overpaid me by mistake and the IRS would come back at a latter date and want the money they overpaid me back..

The payment you receive is equal to your last year's net income tax liability but no more than $600 for a single person. The minimum payment is $300 for a single person.

People who had no net income tax liability last year will usually get a minimum payment of $300 for a single person.  That's probably what you were reading about. Evidently you paid at least $600 in tax on your 2007 return. No worries.

OK, Thanks It starts to get a bit confusing now. The last time they did rebates it was a simple $300.00 single and $600.00 married and I believe that was it. I remember Congress was fighting over the amount of this years refund back in 2007, so I figured they could of changed the $300.00 amount  to $600.00  at the last minute. OK I'm glad everything is ok and my refund/rebate is correct Thanks folks.[:)]
