Aloha and Lawzee:

This is my first time on TulsaNow SO I would like to introduce myself.  Hi I'm John & I am a "INDEPENDENT CONSERVATIVE"  but I'm registered as a republican so I can vote.

downtown this downtown that downtown the other
Tulsa's downtown has been going downhill since the Johnson Presidency  many different things have contributed to its decline  old age, the 1960's urban renewal, The "You oowes us" crowd, the building of the freeways/idl
& the cities demographics.  Tulsans no longer
live on the fringes of downtown using it as a central shopping & business district since w w ll Tulsnas have moved south, east, west, to the suburbs, & to the small towns around Tulsa Broken Arrow, Jenks, Bixby, Glenpool, Owasso, Collinsville, Inola, Sapulpa,  Kifer/Mounds Catoosa, Coweta, Berryhill, Claremore,Skiatook
& Sandsprings. Tulsans do not want to go out of their way to go shopping or take care of business remember the price of gas, the crime rate, & your job where you work all day.
Tulsa has a rich treasure of architecture downtown Art Deco & comercial  almost everything built downtown in the last 45yrs is a ugly eyesore & doesn't harmonize with the original zoning or architecture of the city ie the library/police station/old city hall, the first street/Osu/Greenwood urban renewal area, & the duct taped dog bowl looking Bok center.  The old union depot if you go across the street from the front of it & look to the southeast  looks out of place; to see the difference just look at a postcard of it from the 1930's
The Blue Dome, east end, GreenWood, Gunboat Park,  and  6th & Elgin areas are the remnants and remains   of Tulsa's old age and urban decay
both pre & post w w ll instead of saving anything  historical, razing whats left & finding a prudent use for the empty land  our liberal with a progressive agenda Mrs. Mayor and her cronies are trying to make something out of her term as mayor by bleeding the citizens of Tulsa dry with bonds & taxes  and by building imprudent infrastructure all the while saying  what a good girl am I oh my.
Downtown Tulsa needs to be taken care of and respected for the rich treasure that it is and the wonderful heritage it has given our city
but alas it will never be the social, business, or shopping area it was pre 1964

The fair  grounds  oh boy where do I start
lets see oh I know lets move our baseball team
out of a fairly centralized area 15 & Yale &
move it downtown to Tulsans old black/ghetto area
so that in a couple of years because of the crime in the area  primarily from the "YOU OOWES US' crowd  nobody wants to go out of their way to see the Drillers play.
The Tulsa Drillers nobody cares nobody cares nobody cares other than Satchel Paige
appearing at the fairgrounds  the Drillers are just another po dunk minor league team   and now
the AAA Woop Tee Do league Tulsa Drillers vs.
the Buttscratchville Bugger Flickers the Drillers are lucky that any major league team wants them as a farm team they sure aren't the Kansas City Royals or the Texas Rangers now are they.
The Bells ordeal at the fairgrounds some of you say that Sally bell and her family
have a axe to grind and don't know anything about business well most of you probably don't know what's going on. The Bells were  run out of business because they are republicans & members of the John Birch society who don't engage in corrupt politics  Mrs Mayor, her cronies, & the city counsel were all having running screaming hissy fits back when the city was considering annexing the fairgrounds  because they didn't want the bells family around with the Bells around The mayor, and the city could not get away with their micky mouse political doings.
You probably don't remember this  but back in the early 1980's 80,81,82,83 the bells wanted to leave the fairgrounds so they could
build a water park and a improved amusement park at 193rd east ave and 51st it was just magic hey couldn't get water rights from either Tulsa or Broken Arrow and the project
failed.
Hey boys & girls can you say Murphy brothers and the Just built Big Splash and can you say corrupt fairgrounds trust authority and corrupt city and county governments.  Oh where oh where
is the grand jury oh that's right I just forgot this is Oklahoma besides a fair and just grand jury in Oklahoma what was I thinking
The Bells and their amusement park and
their business dealings I won't say how I know
but Robbie, Bob and Sally Bell are quite astute
at the amusement park business if nothing else
the have this little quirk they like to eat, to pay their bills & to have a roof over their heads   most mom & pop family owned amusement
parks are either closed or death traps small amusement parks can't get the cash flow of a Magic Mountain or Six Flags type park  the Bells on a much smaller scale bucked that trend
but it took them lots of honesty, character, their religious faith,  frugal business knowledge and most of all hours and hours of hard work
sure Mrs Sally Bell has a axe to grind a big one but who better to start the house cleaning that Tulsa's city & county government needs

Ah so dishonorable Grasshopper you have
 awoken the proverbial sleeping Dragon

                       Aloha and Lawzee

Wow, these kinds of posts make my head hurt (no structure, grammar and poor punctuation) and also reinforce my reasoning behind why outsiders consider Tulsa backwards.  Let's all live in 1960.

Sorry, not my time.  I'll live in the now, y'all can stay back then.

Sheesh.

I would like to apologize to the readers of
Tulsanow for my bad grammar and English I am doing the best I can
English was never one of my better subjects in school
I do not live in the 1960'S that just when the problems began  from the 1960's onward Tulsa instead of moving forward has continued to bastardize itself at every opportunity if we don't look at the past how can we look to the future  I just don't want Tulsa to become a bastardized & homogenized bedroom community one example of this is the fairgrounds Bells amusement park is gone the Indian casinos are
slowly running Fair Meadows out of business
the yearly Tulsa swap meet is gone the Tulsa
flea market has become a useless old folks
junk sale the Tulsa antique sale is just plain ridiculous compared to what it used to be  the
Drillers are moving downtown the indoor fun fair is gone Big splash how long before it goes out of business  what will expo square be like in the future alive or dead  opening once a year for the fair and nothing else

As far as I'm concerned, Big Splash could close up today and I'd NEVER miss it.  Corrupt corrupt corrupt.

I'm glad to see the Drillers moving downtown; that's where they belonged to begin with.

I'm glad you agree partially with me and sorry about some of my comments.  It almost looks as if you are sad that the Drillers are moving downtown.

In my eyes, to keep Tulsa front and center you HAVE to develop downtown.  What I don't agree with you on is the characterization that the area they are moving it to is an 'old black getto'.

That won't get you very far here, I'll tell you that right now.  We need to be united to make this city what it can be.

And there is nothing wrong with being 'liberal/progressive'.  I too do not like Mayor Taylor, but feel like Tulsans voted for her as the lesser of two evils.

And actually, in rereading some of your post, you are still living in early Tulsa.  I think the BOK Center in short time will put Tulsa on the map of places with an iconic arena to draw acts and conventions to.

And sorry, as much as like Sally Bell as a person, I won't be voting for her.  She pretty much ensured that Karen Keith will win the election for CCD2.

This is the perfect opportunity to use a lyric from one of my favorite TV show songs. From "The Flintstones"...

"Let's drive, with the family down the street

Through the, courtesy of Fred's two feet."

It is also a great trivia question. Lots of know-it-alls think they know all the lyrics but nobody remembers that line.
Power is nothing till you use it.

grahambino

and while we're talking about the Drillers, how about that metric system is the tool of the yuppie liberal mayor to try and confuseitize us into believeing that the metric systems has a new fungdified way of measuring a volume and a distance of the home run fences in the downtown vacuum of the old ghettos and if you dont want to measure a freeway any other way then you dont need a liberal lawyer to confusitize me into believeing that a meter is another way for the creep of socialized medicine to enter the marketplace determined by the government and if the metric system has no bearing on the fairgrounds i believe in order to save the fair meadows fairgrounds we a need to measure everything in hands and furlongs and not this fungdified new metric measures that i think is a way for a liberal lawyer mayor to subordiante us into UN membership

EricP

My brains hurts from trying to read that single, really, really long unpunctuated sentence.

RecycleMichael

grahambino is a genius...

Understanding the Metric System

1 million microphones = 1 megaphone
1 million bicycles = 2 megacycles
52 cards = 1 decacards
1/2 bathroom = 1 demijohn
2000 mockingbirds = 2 kilomockingbirds
3-1/3 tridents = 1 decadent
10 monologs = 5 dialogues
2 monograms = 1 diagram
1 millionth of a fish = 1 microfiche
10 rations = 1 decoration
10 millipedes = 1 centipede

Power is nothing till you use it.

Aloha and lawzee:

a few comments I don't consider some of what I say stupid or incoherent every time I look up Tulsa on the internet or watch the news I hear some new and
ridiculous scheme cooked up about downtown
or the river involving a river tax proposal or
a new sales tax or another bond issue or ect
all Tulsa really does is tax its people
to death don't say a word when Tulsa has a 25 cent sale tax
in august of 2007 I had my gallbladder removed in less than three days I went septic and had to go back to Hillcrest for another operation on the way to the hospital I had to ride all the way down 21st street feeling every pothole in the street because of the condition
I was in so gee tell us more about all these
wild schemes for downtown and the river
Tulsa is slowly becoming a bedroom community
it makes me sick to think about it the fairgrounds is just one example of it
the Bells family; they are good for Tulsa
rather people realize it or not I know because I go to church with them and can learn things
the general public can't its just I'm trying
to protect their privacy and their good name
I guess its wrong to be a honest business person with a small business in the 21st century in Tulsa or so it would seem

well I guess I don't understand
the corporate culture here at Tulsaco.

K, now it's becoming more and more apparent that you are shilling for the Bells, whether it be Sally for commish or just the whole family.

While I have nothing personal against Sally or her family, I, like many people, will not be voting for her.  I'm sure there will be plenty of people voting for her.

If you like the fairgrounds so much, please, be my guest and move in to the Microtel....
