River Parks using Smart Car

So I was riding my bike yesterday and ran into the smart car on riverside trail...I'm glad someone is out in the area, but why get something that takes up the entire trail and might cause accidents instead of preventing them? Maybe I'mjust upset that I had to slow down and wait for it to pass, but what was wrong with electric golf carts?

the golf carts dont have heat and air.  you have to remember that those guv'mint wurkers are delicate and they need to reduce their exposure to the elements.

Smart Cars are pricey and also cause more smug to be released in the atmosphere than any other car. I saw one at Reasors the other day and they parked in the hatched area at the front of the parking lot, because he was too good to have to use a regular parking spot.

I have to agree with you here. The vehicle they had was fine, if not noisy. It would have been great converted to ng and electric and have made a green statement. But the security had a hard time getting in and out of that one even though it was open like a small jeep. Usually he only got out to schmooze at the Rivers Edge. Now that they have a heated, a/c car with doors, and the Rivers Edge is closed, I expect they'll seldom leave its confines.

That is quite dangerous, get too much smug and you could have a perfect storm of self satisfaction. I hope river parks doesn't disappear up its own *** like San Fransico.

i see the same thing happen everywhere...and it's never been a smart car.

Yes, I seen that story in the Tulsa World. I'm against it. Motor traffic should not be allowed on the jogging trails. They patrol our jogging trails by bike. The big crime problems are not on the trails but in the parking lot. I see alot of broken car window glass in the parking lots of RiverParks so that means some one got hit. They need to patrol the parking areas, the rest of the trail can be patroled (if needed) by a cop car driving down Riverside drive. The focus needs to be in the parking areas. I do not like the "smart car" on the trails.[xx(]

Are you originally from the east coast?  No one around here knows what a hoagie is, they think they are "subs". (Former Philly area kid.)

you cannot patrol a park from the street. It is neccesary to be in the park for a patrol. And the Riverparks needs to be patrolled regularly for sexual predators, but not much else. It is a safe park. I go to Riverparks weekly in warm weather, and have not seen the broken glass you speak of. Are suggesting burglary is a problem, because I have never heard that about Riverparks?

Also, a police patrol is not "motor traffic", it is a police patrol. I do not think people should ride ATVs in the park, but have no issue with the sheriff's 4 wheeler patrol.

The smart car sounds like a good idea for a 4 season patrol vehicle. I would not expect anyone to provide security in sub 40 or sub 30 degree weather on a bike or ATV and expect them to remain focused on the task of keeping watch on the grounds.

The Patrol period is only from March to October... sounds like a effortless job just got easier. When the trails are congested, it is just another hassle to deal with.

Ok, then just give them donkeys and tell them to deal with it.

Or what about one of these?

with the cost of feed priced increasing, donkeys would probably be a more expensive option.  The original poster had it right with electric golf carts.
