Well I guess everyone deserves some slack on ice days but generally I have to agree that Tulsa has some extra bad drivers.  It seems like most common malady is either being elderly or excessively passive.  And there is very little signaling any more.  Even when you are facing people at 4 way stops.

Excessively passive. That's a great term. Having driven in Dallas, Jacksonville, St. Louis, and Lincoln, Nebraska, I'd have to say "excessively passive," is the greatest problem with Tulsa drivers.

I've referred to Tulsa's drivers previously as docile, or sheeple, but I like excessively passive, as in stop at the end of a highway on-ramp passive. [;)]

That I'll agree with (stopping on freeway on ramps).

I lived in Houston for three years, and the drivers here really, aside from that pet peeve, are no more docile or agressive than those.

But this morning, when the east side streets are nearly skating rinks, people up on my bumper tend to piss me off.  Driving 45 in a 40 in these conditions is stupid.

Why do I say that?

Because the moron up on my bumper went around me and wound up in the ditch.  So take your pick.  docile and get to your destination, or agressive and get to your destination (given that your destination is a ditch).

Renaissance

Everywhere I've ever lived, those behind the wheel "don't know how to drive" and were "the worst drivers in the country."

Usually those who told me that had never lived anywhere else.

Hometown

Quintessential Tulsa Traffic Moments:

Getting stuck behind an 80 year old, driving his 100 year old mother to prayer meeting.

Or

Encountering a timid driver fearful of applying foot to petal.  Waiting for a written invitation.

Indeed, I favor a max. driving age of around 70 years old. I feel after  age 70 or so people lose too much of their ability to drive. We all do, it's all part of living..  As we age our bodies and reflexs fall apart. I favor raising the driving age from 16 to 18. Teens crash because they show off and don't pay attention. Older drivers crash because they lost the ability to drive. We need to address those problems.[B)]

You mentioned Lincoln, Nebraska- that is one heck of a city. The biggest problem I found there is everything seems cramped and tight. Lincoln is a city built on the wide open great plains and the streets are narrow and everything seems packed so tight together. Maybe it has since changed since I was last there in the mid-1990's.

I subscribe to the George Carlin view of drivers... everyone going faster than me is a fool and everyone going slower than me is an idiot...
