I just thought it was time to get involved in the forum and stop being a ghost. My wife and I moved to Tulsa three years ago from Washington state and Ive been reading the forum since we got here. Im a health teacher in the burbs and my wife is a social worker downtown. We live in midtown and have a 1 year old son. This is a great forum and has a real energy for progress in our city. By the way my forum name is swampee because Im a huge gator fan as a UF alum so OU fans feel free to give me as much crap as desired. Ive gotten used to it living in Tulsa since last years big game. Anyways looking forward to getting involved.

Welcome swampee. My niece graduates from the University of Florida this spring and I hope to make the trip to Gainesville for the ceremony.

I am curious at the reasons you came to Tulsa from Florida and Washington states.

Congrats to your niece UF has become a very good school. When I was there 15 years ago it was known as only a party school and has really improved since then. If you do get the opportunity to get down there this spring Harrys downtown has a great atmosphere and poboys and the Purple Porpoise right across from campus is good place to have a drink.

In regard to why my wife and I moved here from Washington its a bit long but Ill give it a go. We absolutely loved living in Western Washington but we couldnt afford it. Singlewides on a 1/4 acre were going for close to $300,000 three years ago. On a teachers and social workers salary we would have been renters for life so we decided to leave. We would have loved to move close to family but my family is in NYC and my wives in Toronto. Both places again are not affortable for us. So we did a ton of research and chose between Raleigh, Nashville, Greenville SC, and Tulsa. We visited all these places and Tulsa was our choice. We fell in love with Tulsas midtownand the potential of its downtown. As a middle class family Tulsas midtown was the only one we could afford a house. Also the people here are very genuine,my wife and I are an interracial couple and Tulsa has been a great place to live in that regard.
